...natürlich ein must have...

One of the best albums I've heard

Even if you have never heard of John Sykes this is a must, there are some beautifully crafted and arranged songs here, all AOR or ballad based. A different side of John Sykes with very tasteful and melodic guitars. Also I think Phil Lynott's last studio vocal on "please don't leave me". Not easy to get hold of but worth the effort and waiting.

Sykes, King of Loveland
Reviewed in the United States on 27 October 2007
The title for this album is Loveland, so it is composed by love songs. I'm saying this to clear the thing for the guys who probably can't understand this by themself. For the Sykes fans out there like myself who don't own this album, I can say that they would like to own this one. This album is a collection of love songs in the "Save my love" way (from "Nothing but trouble"). You know Sykes wrote some of the most incredible power ballads of the hair metal days (how golden was that era!). Or better, he wrote the icon ballad of those days, the one that started the trend, "Here I go again" taken from Whitesnake's 1987 album (which is totally a Sykes album in the end). Another great one I guess he composed (but surely played in those days) was "Is this love". No short deal! So you know how good he is in the ballad field. Another exceptional one is "I wish it would rain" from Nuclear Cowboys. But this album is not a collection of ballads from previous albums don't get me wrong. I was only pointing out Sykes' main achievement in the ballads genre. Here you have all new tunes except for a version of "Don't hurt me this way" a ballad (a mid tempo tune to be more precise) John co-wrote with Phil Lynott (Phil is the singer here). I can say this album is great. I love it and I'm listening alot to it in these days. John does not play phenomenal solos here (just in few points) like one would expect. He stays true to the ballad form and does not overplay to show off, like he could do. It's a very mature way to approach an album like this one. He plays the guitar only for spare brief lines, but with his trademark usual terrific vibrato and overall sound. The songs are arranged with piano in the first place, and here and there there's a string orchestra (or computer generated strings sounds). Obviously bass and drums, and John's guitar. The songs are from very good to excellent and there are no weak moments in the entire program (there's a song, Wuthering Heights, that is written in a Beatles vein, very nice.. John, in the end, is an englishman). The interest is very high throughout the album and John sings wonderfully. So I really suggest you the purchase of the album. Remember it's an album made of love songs, of ballads, so if you don't like the concept stay away. But if you love Sykes music, you'll love it. Few words on the reissue edition. The graphic it's not perfect. You can see clearly that the cover has been pictured or scanned down and reprinted because the titles are not perfectly clear. I mean, the job could have been done better. But this album has been relelased only in the Japanese market in 1997; since then it has always been unavailable in USA and in Europe, so, I won't complain too much. I'm really happy to own it, finally! But the artwork could be better.
