Mansun – Little Kix

Apart from the obvious problems (enthusiasm, weaker songs, safe production) the biggest issue I've always had with this album has been it's lack of humour. You have to wait until Goodbye to hear anything intentionally camp. By then the record is lost, and I really like half of the songs.

No sign of any reissue then, maybe because Paul Draper has very little love for this album?

After their first two hyper-ambitious albums, they could only disappoint us...it took me 20 years to accept this album for what it is, rather than reject it for what it isn't.

Dug out my old copy of the 2000 vinyl and played it on my new turntable/amp/speaker set up. I'd only every played it maybe once before on lower spec kit, it was more of a collection thing than to play it.
But wow, does it sound good. A very clean pressing, almost no unwanted noise and the most noticeable improvement is the bass pops out like I've never heard before - especially on I Can Only Disappoint U.
Hard to come by the original vinyl these days but maybe a re-issue is in the works - the music has stood the test of time well, but then I way always a huge fan.

Mansun’s four albums – Attack of the Grey Lantern (1997), Six (1998), Little Kix (2000) and the compilation Kleptomania (2004) – were originally issued by Parlophone. The Kscope reissues will bring these classic records into the modern age by delving into a treasure trove of previously unreleased audio and visual material while fully remastering the original recordings for 5.1 and deluxe 180gm vinyl.

Differing from the mentioned butterfly Mansun failed to turn into something new on Little Kix. Much criticized for their previous magnificent album Six by the horde of mediocrity they decided to make this one more on the popular side. The album sounds beautifully polyphonic but smoothness and the shortage of originality just threw the band down from the heights they had vanquished earlier with their previous bountiful albums.
