Kristen Johnston Boards Netflix's Chuck Lorre & Leanne Morgan Comedy Series
Kristen Johnston (The Righteous Gemstones) is reuniting with Chuck Lorre and Susan McMartin as she joins the cast of Netflix's Untitled Leanne Morgan Project in a series regular role. The trio previously collaborated on four seasons of the CBS series Mom.
Co-created by Morgan, Lorre and McMartin, the scripted, multicam comedy will follow Leanne, whose life is upended when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you're a grandmother and in menopause isn't exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family, she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.
Johnston will star opposite comedian Morgan as her sister Carol, a two-time divorcee with no kids who would rather hang out at a bar than attend church. Despite their differences, Carol is fiercely loyal to her sister Leanne and is her ride-or-die.
Chuck Lorre, Leanne Morgan, Susan McMartin and Judi Marmel are executive producers. The Untitled Leanne Morgan Project comes from Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Two-time Emmy winner Johnston is best known for her portrayal of extraterrestrial Sally Soloman in 3rd Rock From the Sun for the entirety of the series which ran for 6 seasons from 1996 to 2001. For her performance, she earned three Emmy nominations with two wins for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1997 and 1999.
Most recently, she recurred in Season 3 of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones opposite John Goodman and Danny McBride and Max’s Our Flag Means Death. Addition TV credits also include Getting On, ABC’s Modern Family, ABC’s Ugly Betty, NBC’s ER and Sex and The City from HBO.
Her film credits include Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, Music and Lyrics, Bride Wars and Vamps. She is repped by Buchwald, Berwick & Kovacik and Hansen Jacobson.
