Sebastian Bach Addresses Duff McKagan’s Stand Against Him

Sebastian Bach almost became the vocalist of Velvet Revolver, but Duff McKagan didn’t want him for one reason.

In a new interview with Kyle Meredith, the former Skid Row frontman was asked if he was considering bringing back some older sounds in his new album ‘Child Within The Man.’ He said his voice ‘harkens back’ and recalled almost singing in Velvet Revolver before Scott Weiland. Though he wasn’t accepted for one reason, he didn’t take it as an insult:

“Well, the sound of my voice harkens back. I was gonna be the singer of Velvet Revolver before Scott Weiland. You can Google interviews with Duff and he’ll tell you, ‘We wanted Sebastian, but the problem with Sebastian is that you just think of Skid Row when you hear his voice.’ And I didn’t take that as an insult, ’cause it’s true. That’s the way it is.”

Bach Would Have Accepted The Offer

Back in 2011 when Weiland was still alive, Bach explained it wasn’t really an audition. Instead, he had worked with them on a few songs:

“It wasn’t an audition, I didn’t walk in and sing some songs — it wasn’t like that. I worked with them for a month or a little over. The guys gave me five songs with no vocals so I wrote lyrics and melodies and then we went into the studio to record it.”

In addition, he admitted that he would accept the offer if he was ever asked:

“Listen, if they had picked me we’d probably still be together right now. I’m a musician like them — I’m not a junkie and not into that kind of thing. So, they don’t have a singer and I have a new album. Let’s rock!”

On December 3, 2015, Weiland was found dead on his tour bus. Weiland passed just a day before he was scheduled to perform in Minnesota with his band, the Wildabouts.
