The tower has been adapted with a wooden staircase to get to the top for some wonderful views of the area. There is also a grotto, a chapel and other rooms which give one the feel of what it must have been like to live in a castle many years ago. You can walk or drive from town. If driving just go the hotel and then it is a short walk.

We visited Hornberg Castle in December, and were delighted to have the place almost completely to ourselves! The castle grounds are also home to a hotel and restaurant, with impressive views of the Neckar Valley. Both of these were in service, but it was a bit unclear how to access the actual castle at first, and the main tower was under construction. However, once we figured out that we had to purchase a token in the gift shop (and once the gift shop opened), we had free run of the castle ruins. We climbed old stone walls, explored medieval chapels with colorful stained glass windows, danced in a large banquet hall with enigmatic relief sculptures of queens & kings. It rained a little, and snowed a little, and we could easily imagine ourselves as princes and princesses gamboling through the various rooms and enjoying the views from on high. Not a lot of information, but super fun!

The castle is located right next to the hotel and it’s worth climbing the stairs to take in a panoramic view of Hornberg

this castle was right next to our hotel, Schloss Hornberg and very accessible from our hotel. There is an interactive walk around castle & grounds as well as a playground for children. When we arrived there were school groups touring the castle which is free. there is no organized tour of castle and I would probably not have visited it if not staying at the hotel next door. The views of the valley are lovely and it was very peaceful here once the school group left. I would definitely stay at Hotel Schloss Hornberg again.

The Hornberg Castle is a restaurant and hotel. The history of the hotel is interesting in that it was used to store ammunition for the Germans during the war. There is a wedding chapel on the premises which is a romantic place to tie the knot.

While visiting Germany we decided to splurge and spend a night in a castle. We didn't know it would be such a dark, weird place. The room was adequate although way overpriced, and both my boyfriend and I had the spine-tingling feeling it may have been haunted. The castle was in ruins, and had several torture chambers and jail cells. The dark mood surrounding the place was tangible and we could feel this dark time in history, especially with the cluster of sculptures depicting people starving, crying and suffering. The restaurant has a nice view but the service was poor, and food average. The best thing about this trip was the amazing glass shop at the bottom of the hill from the castle, and the wine they produce from grapes that surround the property. The staff in the hotel was very polite, although the big fake armored knight in the lobby was hokey an the overall feeling was 'tourist trap.' It actually became one of the most memorable parts of our trip and gave us lots to joke about. Fine place for a day visit it you're into exploring the strange, but I wouldn't recommend bringing children into the castle ruins or spending the night there.

We drove to the parking lot of the Schloss Hotel and parked for free. It was an easy stroll along well-maintained paths to the base of the tower. We did not climb to the top of the tower but did walk all the way around the site. Plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view. There is a nice playground for children. The views of the valley and town were terrific. There were interpretive signs in German. You can scan a QR code to get translations to English or French. There was a short video in German that plays in one of the open rooms. It is worth an hour or so to walk around if you are nearby.

Its not so much of a castle now, its a school for the music arts, no real attractions or historical things to see, No entry except for the people who work or attend there. A really nice old structure if like myself enjoy things of the past

We stayed for a night before Christmas. We had a wonderful, exquisite dinner in the castle restaurant, nice choice of wines. We enjoyed the views over the town of Hornberg, see the trains go by at night. The breakfast is great. We were lucky to have a not too cold sunny day and explored the area a bit. This is really a super value for the price!
