Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences Reviews

The community at VAAS is very welcoming and very open-minded — so bullying is rarely ever an issue. We have a variety of clubs here and sports teams. The teachers are very nice and are almost always available to help students. My only critique is the behavior of the students. There is discipline, but I don’t think the students take it that seriously. Also, I feel that the clubs on campus could be more actively involved besides occasionally selling concessions at events and serving as hangout spots for students during lunch. I really enjoyed the academic programs though — especially the science and English programs. They’re very engaging.
I believe the amount of flexibility VAAS provides is the biggest strength. I love that the school shares and aims to meet student needs. Choosing our schedule, especially the eight class schedule, provides both a college like experience but more opportunities to take subjects that catch your interest. The biggest part here is the initiative. Students who don't have that here may struggle, but if those who are more lax, there won't be any problems that may harm. I know others have opinions about rocky situations that the policies may be redundant. I would like to see more encouragement on college preparation. From freshmen year, I believe those reminders fell into the students' hands, which are fair in some instance, however I would love to see more college preparation instead of programs that the students are not interested in. Overall, VAAS is great for students who act independently and taking charge. If not, you may work slow but won't harm you entirely.
I have attended the valley academy of arts and sciences for nearly 4 years now and since then its been one of the best schools I've attended. The school has a very distinct community, with many programs and resources designed to help students succeed in not only academic fields but also personal and mental fields as well. On top of this we are given the opportunity to solve a problem in society, any of our choosing will be studied in depth and worked upon in an attempt to resolve or at least better the issue. This opportunity is our signature project which accounts for all our community service requirements and puts us in a position to help change the community around us, one person at a time. Overall I think VAAS has an excellent community and is really a fantastic environment to learn and grow in.
