Playa Del Rey is a laid back beach community where you actually know your neighbors. People are nice and accepting and there is no judgement. The beach is a great place to catch a game of volleyball with friends, layout, or take a walk or bike ride along the beach path. There are restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. You are bound to run into someone you know and stop to chat and say hi. I would like to see visitors of our city respect it and clean up after themselves. We see a lot of trash left behind after a nice beach weekend. The community pitches in to do cleanups to help keep our areas clean and safe.
Play Del Rey is an amazing community! For being part of LA it's pretty relaxed and very cool! It's the King of the Beach! Very charming Beach and culture, Great restaurants, local hangouts, etc!
I moved to Playa del Rey, CA from a small rural town called Haddam, Connecticut. I have lived here for six years and am sad to leave it when I head to graduate school in Illinois. The reason I love 'Playa' so much is because it is a hidden gem. I have met countless Angelenos who ask 'Where is that?' It is because native Angelenos still do not know about it. That being said, is also the reason why I do not want it to change. Playa del Rey is a small community right next to LAX. Walking around the downtown area I do not see Franchise chains. Instead, I see local restaurants that seem unchanged since the 90s. Flower shops, quaint boutiques, the best coffee on the westside (Tanner's Coffee), all these elements make Playa del Rey what it is and I hope it never changes.
