When you think of celebrity twins, Tia and Tamera Mowry are usually the first ones who come to mind. Tia and Tamera started acting at a young age
Born in Gelnhausen, West Germany to military parents, the Mowry sisters got into show business shortly after convincing their mom to move the family from Texas to California just shy of their 13th birthday.
After settling into the Golden State, the sisters began appearing in commercials and small television roles. It wasn’t until two years later, Tia and Tamera landed starring roles on the hit WB sitcom, Sister, Sister.
The series followed twin sisters who were separated at birth but found each other inside of a mall as teenagers. Their adoptive parents then move in together and raise the girls as they bond.
Sister, Sister was on air for six seasons before it was canceled in 1999. After that, Tia and Tamera headed to Pepperdine University, where they both studied psychology. In the midst of obtaining their Bachelor’s degree, the sisters continued acting.
They co-starred alongside each other in television films such as Twitches, Twitches Too, and Seventeen Again. In 2011, the sisters landed their own reality series, Tia & Tamera, on the Style Network.
The two sisters worked on separate projects
After working alongside one another for nearly two decades, Tia and Tamera began taking on separate projects starting in the mid-2000s.
Tia landed starring roles in BET’s The Game, Nick at Nite’s Instant Mom, and currently stars on the Netflix series Family Reunion.
As for Tamera, she also continued acting, starring in the medical drama Strong Medicine from 2004-2006.
In 2013, she became a co-host on the daytime talk show The Real alongside Adrienne Bailon, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai, and Tamar Braxton.
Today, Tamera is still keeping it real on the Emmy-winning talk show, which was recently renewed for a seventh and eighth season.
