San Mateo High School is an amazing place to be, especially as a current senior. The school has a welcoming environment that makes you feel right at home. The teachers are supportive and always willing to help you succeed. The campus is beautiful, with plenty of green spaces and modern facilities for learning and extracurricular activities. The student body is diverse, which allows you to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures, making your high school experience enriching and educational. The community in San Mateo is also fantastic, with lots of local shops, restaurants, and parks to explore during your free time. Overall, San Mateo High School provides a safe and vibrant community where you can grow academically, socially, and personally.
I am at the Middle College program at College of San Mateo and my home school is Burlingame High School. My experience at both of these schools are polar opposite. Burlingame lacks community and respect, some teachers really try to create a good environment but others seem like they dont even try. My experience at Middle college has been much better and I think the teachers foster a really great community and the student there all respect one another greatly.
While I'm really enjoying my time at San Mateo High School, I've realized that the administration doesn't seem to do as good of a job as it could in listening to what the students need. I love the teachers, too; however, the classes claim to be unusually difficult by justifying it as college readiness, when, in fact, it is much harder than how college classes actually are- so it game me some unnecessary stress. Outside of teaching, though, I love the staffulty.
