You hated the book, so your expectations are going to be in the toilet. This is exactly the opposite of the way it usually happens. Oh, another film I get to review first on this site. It's hard to believe there are any left.
An adaptation of Margaret Atwood's second novel, which has been called unfilmable, and which I have not read. But from my experiences with her work, and the fact that this story is about a woman coming to terms with the disappearance of her father, I find it unconscionable that Claude Jutra managed to devolve it into something so rapey and objectifying. Every second is abysmal, and not just because I had to watch a VHS rip on You Tube. The poster art has nothing at all to do with anything, and couldn't be farther from the content of the film.
