BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track and Field gears up for the 2024 AAC Track and Field Championships, hosted by UTSA from May 10-12. The Blazers enter the meet with 36 entries for the three-day meet. 

The meet opens up with an early morning 10K race, headlined by Kathleen Schellman who is the sole Blazer in the race. In the second distance event, the 1500, Lia Castillo will race for UAB. The Heptathlon will commence later that morning, with Aniyah Marshall competing for the Blazers on the first day of events. In sprints, Gabby Washington will appear in the 200 and Jasmine Dereje in the 400 hurdles. While in throws, Mya McDanal and Birthe Franck-Petersen will compete in javelin and hammer throw. 

On Saturday morning, the second half of the Heptathlon will commence before entering the day in jumps with three Blazers competing in the long jump. Franck-Petersen will return to compete in the shot put while Trinity Fellows will compete in the pole vault. In track events, the 400 will be headlined by Washington. In hurdles, Taylor Washington and Synai Jones will compete in the 100 heat, while Hannah Smith is the sole Blazer competing in the 100m dash. In distance, three Blazers will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase. 

On the final day of the meet, the Blazers have three competing in triple jump, while in high jump features Olivia Beard and Nia Hill. The final throws event of the weekend has Zoe Winkenwerder and Tia Espinoza competing in the discus throw. The Blazers will compete in the 4x100 relay, with Hannah Smith, Taylor Washington, Gabby Washington, and Jasmine Dereje competing. The Green and Gold will additionally compete in the 4x400m with Alicia Abalos Cervera, Jasmine Dereje, Gabby Washington and Hannah Smith representing UAB.

The Blazers round out the meet with two Blazers competing in the 5K: Anna Behmer and Katie Keur.
