      Critics Consensus

Wringing a seemingly impossible amount of gripping drama out of its claustrophobic premise, Buried is a nerve-wracking showcase for Ryan Reynolds' talent.

Carter C This film was definitely the most thrilling and dramatic (a good dramatic) I’ve seen in a very long time! Reynolds really put his heart and soul into this film, along with keeping the humor that made him famous with him too. It can be a bit boring sometimes and there’s no action to love, but in a movie like this, you don’t need action to be a good film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/24 Full Review Cash S Buried is a very intense and impressive film. They could've easily had the film take place inside and outside of the coffin, but instead they make the genius decision to have the film take place entirely underground in a coffin, there's no one on screen other than Ryan Reynolds, and it keeps you invested from beginning to end. This movie could've gotten really old really fast, but instead it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time, and it makes you really care about this man. The film is paced surprisingly well, considering the premise, and I was never bored. Ryan Reynolds shows that he can do more than just be charming and sarcastic, with possibly his career-best performance that proves that he is a fantastic actor. This film also has some really emotional moments between his mom and wife that actually got me kind of teary-eyed. The big glaring issue for me is the ending. I hate when films do these depressing downer endings. I thought this was very well made film, it just wasn't quite as great as it could've been. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Theemuis 1 Really placed Ryan Reynolds acting talent to the max Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Daniel G One of the most breath taking movies i've ever seen even tho we can only see a man and a coffin for more than half of the movie, a simply made movie with alot of meaning behind it, since it starts until it ends it offers a huge amount of emotions that you might not be able to control. 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/23 Full Review Anne-Laure M As simple as the synopsis sounds (a guy's in a box, buried alive with a telephone), yet this film is pure genius. Right from the start, we're there, in the box with Paul, in the most claustrophobic atmosphere ever. Without knowing who he is, we identify with him and feel the panic gradually rising up. After 20 minutes, we legitimately wonder whether the intensity can be maintained until the film's 90-minute running time... Well, yes! We're with him in this mess from start to finish, experiencing the highs and lows intensely, and never ceasing to wonder "what would I do in his place? Also noteworthy is Ryan Reynolds' breathtaking performance, his best I've ever seen. A must-see masterpiece. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/04/23 Full Review Alec C Gives claustrophobia a whole new meaning! We watch in agonized anticipation for either a rescue or a tragic demise. As the air gets thinner and pressure keeps mounting, we feel as though we are the ones who are buried inside of that coffin! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
