Be prepared for an antique. This was when they didn't know what to do with sound movies and just threw everything at the wall smashing everything to pieces. Here they smashed vaudeville stars Joe Schenck & Gus Van for their only feature together with Schenck dying soon after. The film wasn't a smash though. A failure at the boxoffice and, if you're not prepared for it, a difficult film to sit through because it goes in all directions. It's all about the curio of seeing Van Schenck out of their element and pick up the little broken pieces of that's worth liking, like Bessie Love songs and Benny Rubin & Tom Dugan trying to be a comedy pair. Otherwise this is a weird vaudeville baseball movie with a touch of heartbreak.
Bessie Love and Nina Mae McKinney are reason enough to watch this, I'd fast forward through the Benny Rubin & Tom Dugan part though 😐
I wish I could've seen the "Harlem Madness" sequence in it's original Technicolor.
Ok musical vehicle for comedy duo Van and Schenck co directed by my great grandfather, Sam Wood.
