Oriental Gourmet 潮陽食軒 - Vintage Garden Dinning Room 葡萄園會所 in Toronto - Restaurant menu and reviews
Nestled in the Vintage Garden seniors' residential complex, Oriental Gourmet 潮陽食軒 - Vintage Garden Dining Room 葡萄園會所 is a hidden gem that serves authentic Chiu Chow cuisine. The establishment is clean and brightly lit, with a casual ambiance. The restaurant was bustling on a Saturday night, with a steady stream of customers coming in and out. The menu is priced affordably, and the food is top-notch. The deep-fried tofu with ground pork was saucy, but the tofu held up well. The stir-fried chicken with deep-fried spinach had a mild sweet and savory sauce, and the deep-fried spinach was a surprisingly good sidekick to the chicken. The smoked duck was well done with a good smoky taste. The satay noodles with beef were a classic dish that is hard to keep well-stuffed in a takeout box compared to fresh at a fine dining spot, but the flavor was there. The green beans with fried olives and minced pork were standard Chinese fare but done really well here and consistent too. They have a set course menu, but it's better to order various items to try. They served complimentary dessert, and the menu was priced affordably. The restaurant is technically labeled as the "Vintage Garden Dining Room" on the ground floor of an apartment building, and the entrance is not the most obvious, though there is some simple signage. The restaurant is a bit noisy, but it's tolerable. They have plenty of free parking spots. Overall, the Oriental Gourmet 潮陽食軒 - Vintage Garden Dining Room 葡萄園會所 is a great place for authentic Chiu Chow Food that is worth a visit.
Not a lot of chiu chow food options in Toronto anymore. Was excited for this place because I've heard good things about it. Had takeout once and it was not great so decided to dine in today to give it another try. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. The food was acceptable but I probably won't be going again. The brine for the marinated duck was weak and the meat was tough and not tender. Presentation also not the greatest or appetizing. The pork stomach soup had an overpowering ginger taste but otherwise okay but there are definitely better options elsewhere. The oyster pancake was the best out of all the dishes.
