Welcome to Buxton, famous for its warm spa and natural spring waters.

Buxton offers a wealth of attractions for visitors who want to explore this historic town or discover the surrounding countryside.

Before you leave the station, look out for the huge fanlight window in the station building, designed by Joseph Paxton.

Buxton is an elegant spa town with a host of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and heritage attractions to visit. Surrounded by the Peak District National Park and home to international and fringe arts festivals, Buxton offers a wide range of interests to suit everyone.

Buxton is the final destination on the line from Manchester Piccadilly.

In the centre of town and close to the station are the beautiful historic buildings of the Opera House, the Crescent and Palace hotels, the Devonshire Dome and the Pavilion Gardens.

The Pavilion Gardens offer a relaxing place to unwind with landscaped gardens, lakeside paths, play areas, cafe, restaurant, retail, art gallery and a helpful Tourist Information Centre.

Buxton is known for its cultural festivals, including Buxton International Festival, Buxton Festival Fringe and the Gilbert and Sullivan Festival.

Friends of Buxton Station

The Friends of Buxton Station (FoBS) are always busy working on many community-linked projects to celebrate the town and bring interest to the station and its surrounding environment.

The award-winning FoBS is highly respected in the community rail movement. They have won several Community Rail Network awards, an award from DeFra for their efforts to protect bumblebees and in 2021 they were honoured to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. There’s a monthly Garden Party at Buxton station when volunteers can drop in and lend a hand with the ongoing list of jobs.
