Wael Khairy RogerEbert.com With "In Bruges." it feels like Martin McDonagh opened a window in a room where the air has been recycled endlessly. Sep 15, 2023 Full Review Wendy Ide Times (UK) [Martin McDonagh's] affinity with meandering, melodically rhythmic dialogue and volcanic eruptions of profanity serves him well in this witty, wordy film. Oct 19, 2022 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator In Bruges has some cracking lines in it, a cracking performance from Brendan Gleeson as Ken, and some very funny, provocative jokes, but I still don't know... It's just all the violence that did me in. Aug 23, 2018 Full Review Stephen Silver Tilt Magazine Nowhere did director Martin McDonagh better manage dark comedy than in his debut film (15th anniversary) Rated: 4/5 Mar 19, 2023 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight In Bruges is a darkly humorous film that should be seen not just for the way it subverts genre norms, but also for how it sculpts and redefines them into something better. Rated: 4/4 Dec 6, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The movie is about meaningful conversations, idleness, boredom, remorse, hard laughs, stark violence, and grotesque humor—I loved it. Audience Member A film showcasing exceptional acting, with Colin Farrell's performance standing out remarkably. The plot is punctuated with surprising and entirely unforeseen events. It enthralls with the enchanting ambiance of beautiful Bruges. Although I anticipated a different conclusion, the film remains highly commendable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/04/24 Full Review mary d I loved this movie! I laughed til I cried. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Jessica G Witty, dark and every twist was more ridiculous than the last, but I loved it. Farrel’s performance was utterly captivating. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/30/24 Full Review Tom G This could be harsh of me, but I found in Bruges to be choppy and confusing. It felt like the film didn't know what it wanted to be half the time, whether it was meant to be taken seriously or comedically gave me total whiplash. The amount of violence in this film coupled with the overly-sarcastic and pessimistic performance from Farrell left me wondering what I was meant to feel. Whilst the ending, with Fienes' character coming into the picture, is much more enjoyable, Farrell's acting was, for me, very off the mark. And the developing romance he establishes in so hard to believe... I don't know about this one. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Average P Hilarious, foul-mouthed and brilliant. Colin Farrel at his best. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/23/24 Full Review Kristoffer K Close to all time favourite. Deep characters and beautiful told story Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
