  2. The price of being a Premier League manager

    Jesse Marsch

After 343 days in charge at Leeds, Jesse Marsch becomes the eighth manager to be sacked in the 2022-23 season.

The American was brought in as Marcelo Bielsa's successor, after he was sacked in February last year.

However, success comes at a price and ultimately the industry is no stranger to making ruthless decisions.

In the 2021-22 season, 10 managers departed their clubs, a sharp rise compared to the previous 2020-21 season, where only four managers parted company.

The average current tenure of a Premier League manager is two years and three days, with Jurgen Klopp the longest-serving manager at seven years and 121 days.

Klopp is closely followed by Pep Guardiola (six years, 220 days) and Brentford's Thomas Frank (four years, 113 days)

So will we see a familiar face return to Premier League management, or like Marsch, will we see a new face from the international stage?

  3. Corberan favourite to replace Marsch

    Carlos Corberan

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has been installed as the bookmakers' early favourite to be the next Leeds United boss.

While odds vary with different firms, he leads the way on all lists. The third favourite is none other than Marcelo Bielsa, the man who preceded Jesse Marsch.

    Approximate odds

    5-4 Carlos Corberan

    5-1 Mauricio Pochettino

    6-1 Marcelo Bielsa

    9-1 Ralph Hassenhutl

    10-1 Marcello Gallardo

  8. No Premier League wins since November

    Jesse Marsch sacked by Leeds

Leeds beat Chelsea 3-0 on 21 August but since then The Whites have only picked up 11 points from 17 Premier League matches (the joint lowest total along with Southampton).

In that time, Leeds have only gained two league wins (2-1 versus Liverpool away on 29 October and 4-3 at home to Bournemouth the following week on 5 November).

Since then, they have only won twice in 11 games in all competitions - both in the FA Cup, against Cardiff City and Accrington Stanley.

Lewis: Seemed a really nice guy. Nice doesn’t make you a good Premier League manager though. Our board have gone with the cheap option 99% of the time and it’s failed, the only time they spent a decent amount on a manager, well…look what happened….

  14. Poor away record contributes to Marsch sacking

Jesse Marsch had a lot of difficulty in picking up points in away matches. In 10 away Premier League games this season, Leeds had won one, drew two and lost seven.

That's only five points on the road, the equal worst in the division along with Bournemouth.
