After escaping with Newt and Hicks from the alien planet, Ripley crash lands on Fiorina 161, a prison planet and host to a correctional facility. Unfortunately, although Newt and Hicks do not survive the crash, a more unwelcome visitor does. The prison does not allow weapons of any kind, and with aid being a long time away, the prisoners must simply survive in any way they can.

me, remembering it was directed by David Fincher: Alien 3 is a 1992 American science-fiction horror film directed by David Fincher in his directorial debut, produced by Gordon Carroll, David Giler and Walter Hill, and written by Giler, Hill and Larry Ferguson from a story by Vincent Ward. It serves as the third film installment of the Alien franchise, and takes place after the events of Aliens (1986) and was followed by Alien: Resurrection (1997)-
a bleak, beautiful taunt, rejecting any notion of "satisfying" or "exciting", that to this day nobody quite knows what to do with.
movies like this can barely get made on purpose, let alone by a series of flukes and mistakes.
Fox hires David Fincher thinking that as a first-time feature director he’ll be so grateful for the opportunity that they’ll be able to walk all over him. Instead, Fincher refuses to play nice, fights them tooth and nail, and makes this unremittingly bleak and proudly uncommercial movie — which is about a corporation that believes it can safely exploit this wild, untamed alien creature which inevitably turns their hubris and greed into chaos and destruction.

Alien³ gets a lot of flak from most fans of the first two chapters of Alien franchise and in a way it deserves it. In its opening moments, the film makes the cardinal sin of discarding all the survivors we had grown to care about in the previous entry, leaving behind only Ripley and thus taking the premise back to square one. Compared to Ridley Scott's Alien & James Cameron's Aliens, Alien³ is an absolute atrocity. As a standalone offering however, it's not too shabby.
