Top ways to experience Wanchai Computer Center and nearby attractions

The area
Neighborhood: Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.

Bought a Dell monitor yesterday but when I got it home and opened the box saw it had a massive scratch down it. Tried to use it but my eye was constantly distracted by it. Took it back today and the woman basically accused me of making the scratch, of lying and ultimately refused to exchange/help. Admittedly I was fairly annoyed by this but then she started shouting at me. When called over the male manager was decent. DO NOT GO THERE, they do not honour their warranty and worst customer service to accuse me of lying. @yans @wanchaicomputercenter

Beware of Times Computer Shop, 1st shop repair (left side) you see when you up the escalator. They repair my son's phone crack cost 680 and after 1 day the power was not working. I bring it back and said comeback. The phone was damaged inside which don't have it before and ask more money 480 to repair. SCAM!

It's the first shop in front of you as you go up the escalator, and they are at least 1.5times more expensive than any other shop in Wanchai.

They charged me $250 just to check the phone, which they said they would take off the repair bill.... But then they quoted $2250 to repair my iPhone 6, whilst other shops were quoting $1500.

When I asked them to return the phone, they said no problem, and I arranged to pick up the next day. But when I went there, they said it was at the warehouse, and I would have to come back again the following day at 3.30. Annoying.

Went back the next day at 5pm - still not ready!!

The Wanchai Computer is ok, but this shop should be avoided. I am not even sure they have me back the phone with my original parts!

Electronics are no longer cheap in hong kong. I could get exactly the same stuff cheaper off Amazon. If you do decide to buy from there, always shop around. Even though most shops are owned by the same company (I.e. price fixing) its worth comparing prices. There was a price difference of $100 hkd when asking for the price of the same item. And always haggle !!

This particular shop is a scam, as are probably most shops in this mall. I gave my phone to have the cracked screen fixed and they returned it with the volume knobs and microphone not functioning.
After enquiring with them, they advised they don't guarantee their work and refused to fix the phone.

AVOID THIS PLACE. Nothing is legit yet every shop owner attempts to charge true retail price or more for their counterfeit goods. If you're determined to visit this dump, bargain hard and know you are absolutely not buying anything legit.

When i was in Guangzhou and Taipei last month, everyone there including the hotel staff told me to buy computer goods in Hong Kong, they say its cheap and so on. After taking the subway to Wan Chai, i find the computer mall small, like seriously? Well find by that, workers there are not so friendly compare to Taipei and Guangzhou computer mall. What disappoints me the most is the price! Why did everyone say its cheap in hong kong because theres no tax. Seriously, the price is the same! Moreover, even a monopod in Guangzhou cost more than half the price in Hong kong. End of the day, i didnt buy anything, sighhh... Boring.

The mall in itself is hit and miss. My advice to you is to get a recommendation from a friend for a reputable shop. I went to a TERRIBLE repair shop called WG. Firstly, they 'fixed' my macbook but didn't check it when they installed a new hard drive, I was in a rush so couldn't check it myself but when I got home it didn't work so I had to come back to the store. They had to fix it AGAIN.

Secondly, when I got my Macbook, it was evident that they used an old hard drive to replace the one that burned out because now it is very SLOW.

Thirdly at the same time as fixing my Macbook, they also 'fixed' my Sony smartphone. They lost the sim card tray and claimed it was 'already missing' when I gave it to them which was a blatant lie, anyway they ordered a new one but the cover is missing for the tray. When I went to use the Sony phone after getting it 'fixed' guess what?! It doesn't work! I cannot hear anyone on the phone so cannot make phone calls.

AVOID WG AT ALL COSTS! HEED MY WARNING!

Never go to this shop. They are the first shop you see off the escalator in the Wan Chai computer center. Their prices are at least double those of competitors in the center, but more to the point THEY ARE INEPT, DISHONEST and ACHINGLY SLOW. Took them 3 DAYS to change the permissions on a hard drive (I couldn't figure out how to do it and it was an emergency). They sold me a NEW drive for 800 HKD (again, emergency...) then repeatedly I had to return it because THEY WERE UNABLE to complete the job. When I respectfully voiced my concern about the time, expense and lack of results, they became HOSTILE. Safe yourself the trouble and AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
