They are saxophonist Karl Denson, guitarist Elgin Park, keyboardist Robert Walter, bassist Chris Stillwell, and drummer Aaron Redfield.

The Allstars started out in San Diego as DJ Greyboy’s backing band at the party for the release of his groundbreaking 1994 album Freestylin. They quickly became a long-term project with a string of highly acclaimed albums and world tours. Recordings like West Coast Boogaloo, A Town Called Earth, What Happened To Television, and Inland Emperor catch their unique sound, which sounds like music from blaxploitation movies from the 1970s.

The Greyboy Allstars’ success also gave each member of the group a chance to start their own very successful and very different single careers. The saxophonist Karl Denson leads his own traveling band called Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. He also plays tenor sax in The Rolling Stones. Robert Walter is a master of the organ and synthesizers. He runs his own band, 20th Congress, and plays in the band of Phish bassist Mike Gordon.

Elgin Park, whose real name is Michael Andrews, is a guitarist and composer who is in high demand in Hollywood. He has written music for movies and TV shows like “Donnie Darko,” “Freaks and Geeks,” “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,” and “I Feel Pretty.” Chris Stillwell on bass and Aaron Redfield on drums are one of the most sought-after rhythm groups in any style, and they do a lot of high-profile session and tour work.
