Where to sleep in Madrid airport? 16 hr layover overnight

Question

Hola! Missed my flight to Madrid today and need to spend the night when I do eventually get there for 16 hours. Had to pay for entire new ticket (non refundable) back to the states. Was considering a hotel but I’ve spent sooo much $ already. And more concerned about just fkn up getting back to the airport to get my connecting flight back to the states n have to buy a 3rd ticket. Any advice? Female. Thanks!

I stayed at a pretty cheap hotel in Madrid when I had an overnight layover there on the way home from Morocco years ago. It was close to the airport and had an airport shuttle.

I chose Axor for about 130€ and have zero regrets. 24 hr shuttle and I woke up well rested with a clean shower!

It would be worth the money to get an inexpensive room in a hostel. You’ll be miserable and spent loads of overpriced airport food stuck in an airport that long. Some things are worth the expense.

I just did that! Not a hostel but a medium priced hotel room with Free shuttle!

Just make sure the shuttle is running when you need it! Our Madrid hotel shuttle shut down for a lunch break and they didn’t tell us!

Oh geez a whe new ticket. Sometimes the airlines will just book you on a new flight, sometimes

Mannnn a whole entire ticket since I had bought the cheapest ticket. The saddest part is I actually was at the airport on time, chilling, having a coffee and somehow I guess I was daydreaming or spaced out and missed everybody at the gate I was sitting out like walking onto the plane. All of a sudden I looked at my watch and I’m like wait the plane supposed to leave in 10 minutes and they were like yeah gates closed. My bad 😣

I did something similar when my jet-lagged brain thought 20:00 was 10:00 PM. A tough and expensive lesson!

Ouch I feel your pain

Crazy, usually they ping you over the announcement system, you must have been REALLY out of it.

I always get into the secure area and then just go wait at the gate.

Not an airport, but I had a complicated train schedule from Venice to Colmar. Required like 3 transfers and everything running on time with only 10 minute gaps between arriving at a station and going to another train.

I checked the ticket the night before and thought it said 930, but when I got to the station the next day, it said 830. Cost another 500 Eur, but I made it to Colmar a bit later that day. Moral of the story: I now input all flights/trains/etc into my phone and set up a few reminders - one 24h before and another 3-4h before.

Ha ha so u can relate to my 600 pound pain

Yup, though look at it this way - as someone else said in the comments, this is a mistake you won't soon make again :)

Sorry that happened to you though. Mistakes happen. I've had sorta similar things happen when I didn't give myself enough time to get to the airport. About 1000 down the drain and missed the whole trip. Once you get burnt you make sure never to do it again.

Truth! I’ll never daydream that hard at a gate again! I’ve learned my lesson the hard way about running late to the airport that’s why I was so early I was way too relaxed lol. I was just feeling emotional because finances are tight I spent way too much money out here and I just when I get home to my cute little family post hurricane area.

I've only missed 1 flight out of hundreds and it was the one I arrived 3 hours early for so I sat at the bar 50 feet from the gate and threw back 4 drinks watching football.

Lololol relatable

I always get afraid of that happening.

I've done this. Got rebooked onto a later flight, though tbf it wasn't international.
