Welcome to the Toby Carvery Huddersfield. When it comes to roast dinners, we really know our stuff. Every day our chefs lay on a feast of tender, hand-carved meats with all the trimmings – including towering Yorkshire puds, golden roasties with all those lovely little crunchy bits, and plenty of freshly prepared veg, all crowned with proper gravy. Great food excellent service

Get exactly what you expect, food was lovely, fresh and piping hot. Service was great our servers Wendy, Craig and Sophie were amazing thank you for a very enjoyable breakfast.

Family Meal

I had a lovely meal last night at Toby, and I want to give massive credit to both of the bar staff Tom and Meg who produced the drinks as quickly as possible during this busy period. Great work! Highly Recommend x

Just not worth the money

They now charge £10.29 midweek for a meal worth half of that. We used to go in if we got a 25% or 50% off coupon but now we only go if the coupon is for a £6 carvery. Their vegetables are pitiful. Every day green beans and cheaper veg like corn and garden peas and usually some of the veg is half cooked. We overheard another customer asking the chef why there was no broccolli. His response... It is too expensive! There is another carvery location a few miles away where you pay £6.49 and they have a much wider selection of vegetables including broccoli, parsnip, sprouts and boiled new potatoes. Every day they have 2 or 3 of those on offer. The Toby charge upwards of £14 for the Sunday carvery while the other location charges £8.99. It's a no brainer!

Not happy!!!

Where to start? We arrived on time and after a short wait were shown to our table by a polite member of staff who explained the procedure for obtaining our meal. That was the good bit. On arriving at the counter we were met by an indifferent at best, rather grumpy young carver. He disappeared very quickly after carving the meat The dinner plates were stone cold, the Yorkshire puddings tepid at best. My grandson had roast beef, I some pork and beef. Neither was hot. My meat portion was probably no more than 100g. The beef was tough, (we left most of it) the pork was ok. The mashed potato was only tepid, even after giving it a stir to bring the hotter (?) potato to the top. The roast potatoes were equally tepid at best. After giving the peas, sweetcorn and green beans a good stir they were the nearest thing to warm on our plates. The gravy was no improvement - I can’t say it was cold but it didn’t even reach the tepid level. In fairness, it did “move” when stirred. Looking at tables around us, there was a good deal of plate waste. I would have complained at the time, had my grandson not wanted to return home early to watch Champion’s league football. In short……never again!!

Birthday celebration

This was the choice for our daughter's birthday. The staff were helpful and friendly and our food was great. The atmosphere was nice and we really enjoyed our evening. Our daughter was happy to celebrate her birthday there and we will definitely go again.

Not the best but deffo not the worst we have had there

Yorkshire puddings were cold and flat , most of the food was tepid, but it was tasty. Michelle, the young lady who served us was really lovely and apologised and offer to get us fresh Yorkshire puddings and offered us to go and replace our food . We didnt because the food was tasty and they was starting to get really busy but the offer was lovely.

A wonderful meal with friends, with a friendly service.

Our Server was Tom, and he was very friendly, listened to all our needs and made sure we were happy with our meal. The meal was great, and was hot enough not to burn out mouth, unlike some places we have been to before where the meal was barely Luke warm. I would definitely recommend the Toby Carvery at Ainley Top.

We visit every week and our Server is usually Laura, she is amazing... friendly and very helpful. TBH the whole team are great, always a warm welcome & plenty of smiles. Carvery is pretty good too 👌

A Disappointing Visit

Queued 5 mins from our food then told no turkey or beef for 15 mins . When eventually meat ready the beef was tough and turkey not succulent as normally is. Veg not hot . Then to top it all the ice cream machine wasn’t working (2nd visit we have had this problem) and the ice cream is both my Grandchildren and mine favourite ! Table near us had 2 adults and 5 young children who were noisy and made an absolute mess of the place….i feel sorry for the poor staff who had to clean it all up as for all over the floor. A total disgrace. People need to take responsibility for their children as it’s not fair on other diners or the staff at Toby.

Poor hygiene and cross contamination

Went this teatime and wont be going back. I ordered Broccoli and Brie parcel as I have been a vegetarian for 37 years, and Toby is 'Vegetarian Friendly'. My plate was left out next to the beef which had just arrived out and still had the string round it. The server tried removing this with his fingers rather than a knife and splashed meat juices all over my plate, the potatoes and some of the vegetables which contaminated a lot of the food. I pointed this out to the sever and he told me the juices hadn't gone on my meal, which i had already seen so i reused the plate and asked for another making. He took it in the back and said there would be another wait, which was fine. My son and husband chose to have the beef despite it being handled as whilst in the que had seen other people only being able to have gammon due to a wait or all the other meats. I re-joined the que after a few minutes to see a burnt Broccoli and Brie parcel already there - nowhere near enough time had passed to make another from scratch, there is normally about a 15 min wait for these and longer to make a burnt one. I had re-joined the que while my family were eating. 20 mins later, they had finished and i returned to the table with freshly put out vegetables (the contaminated ones eaten, not changed), and I very much suspect the same, but now burnt broccoli and brie parcel. There were no signs on the vegetarian gravy and this was nearly empty, cold and gloopy. I didn't eat this. So......... poor hygiene practices, not vegetarian friendly, cross contamination, staff not very helpful. Oh.......... and there was sick all over the toilets.

Not my best visit.

Booked to go to our local carvery for my daughter's birthday. Initial service upon arrival was good. I had ordered refillable soft drinks for which the glasses took up to 10 minutes to arrive at the table. My wife and daughter had already got their food by this point. The food was not up to scratch on this visit either. Although the meat was cooled very well and full of flavour. The roast potatoes were raw in the middle for all 4 of us. 1 of our Yorkshire puddings felt like it was made out of rubber.( Like it had been reheated several times through the day) We decided not to order puddings after the quality of the main meal. Then when I was asked how the meal was upon paying. I explained and was just given a "I'm very sorry" as they walked away swiftly.
