FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Top-seeded Farmingdale State College was eliminated from the 2024 Skyline Conference Softball Championship on Friday, as the Rams (31-10) fell to second-seeded Manhattanville University by a 3-2 count to open the day, before dropping the nightcap to fifth-seeded SUNY Old Westbury, 7-2.

Old Westbury will play the Valiants in Saturday's championship final, beginning at 1 p.m. The Panthers will need to beat Manhattanville twice in order to win the Skyline title, while the Valiants need just one victory to capture the crown.

Recap vs. Manhattanville

Farmingdale State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with senior right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.) leading off with a walk and advancing to second on a wild pitch. A sacrifice bunt by freshman first baseman Madison Sturtz (E. Islip, N.Y.) moved Giliberti up 60 feet, before the senior scored two batters later on a wild pitch to put the Rams in front.

Giliberti had a hand in doubling the FSC's lead in the top of the fifth inning, as her two-out double to the left-field corner sent freshman center fielder Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) home with the team's second run of the contest.

Manhattanville responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and set Farmingdale State down in order in the seventh to advance to the championship series.

FSC senior right-hander Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) took the tough-luck loss in the circle, scattering five hits and one earned run while fanning five Valiants.

Recap vs. Old Westbury

FSC opened the scoring with a two-run top of the fourth inning, with Giliberti's two-out single to left-center with the bases loaded driving home sophomore pinch-runner Lauren Varagnolo (Centereach, N.Y.) and Toro.

The Panthers (24-13) countered with a two-run bottom of the fifth frame, leveling the score at 2-all. Old Westbury then tacked on five unearned runs in the sixth inning to advance to the championship final.

Junior right-hander Ava Shorr (No. Babylon, N.Y.) fanned seven Panthers hitters, while Sturtz went 2-for-3 with a triple. Giliberti finished 1-for-3 with an intentional walk and two RBI, while Shorr, Toro, and sophomore catcher Lindsay Cahill (Shoreham, N.Y.) all notched one hit apiece.
