Large park with lots of campsites.
Fair amount of trails. Park.store doesn't have much to offer bit town of Mathis is 10-15 min away with gasy food and grocery stores and gas stations. Lots of water front camping but there aren't very many trees on these sites. Many other campsites in park are heavily wooded and secluded but no water front views. Restroom facilities are ok but showing age. Fishing piers available in park. Overall good for fishing and family outings.

We were passing through on our way home. We had seen this in YouTube. We kindly asked if we could drive through to plan a visit. The female ranger was extremely rude. Needless to say, we weren’t allowed to drive through. Because of her actions, we don’t plan to come back :(

Searching for a place to visit once a year ... Spent four nights at shelter #7. Clean, under $30/night.

First night we were treated to a raccoon's calls at 3am... Funny. Second night, the f-bombers moved in across the street. Not funny.

A car was broken in to... That sucked..

Showers were fairly clean and there was only one time we encountered a line.

Trash cans were sparse...

Not horrible, just unimpressed.

This isn't our spot...

All RV sites are pull-through, no internet, showers in the full hook-up loop but no showers in the EW loop, 1 dump station, tent camping. Sites are not necessarily level even though they all have concrete slabs. All sites have a picnic table (most covered) and ground level BBQ/fire pit combo. Interior roads are paved and in excellent condition.
$16/N for EW, $20/N for EWS, plus $4/day/person park access fee. As the campground surrounds a lake, fishing (no license), biking, swimming and canoe/kayaking (no rentals) are possible. In the village of Mathis (5 miles) there is a small HEB grocery store as well as gas stations that sell diesel; Corpus Christi is a 45 min drive.

Stayed 5 days with my family in the RV and really enjoyed it. Nice and quiet during the week! It fills up on the weekend. We went to the lexington, beach and aquarium from here about 35 min away. Nice park.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park
May 31-June 4, 2018

First time my wife has ever said; "We will not return to this park". We have been camping from Virginia to Texas for over 25 years. The lake is beautiful and the covered picnic tables and bbq grills look great from a distance. Up close the grills are overflowing with old charcoal with piles of charcoal and ash build up on the ground around the grills. The build up of cigarette butts, bottle tops, wire tie wraps, plastic, etc. around each picnic table is disgusting.

This lack of detail in cleaning carries through to the camping areas. After thirty minutes even I quit picking up debris in my campsite. The campsites need attention, but it is definitely not occurring. I shoveled off a build up of dirt to get down to the concrete pad for my trailer. A long term build up of run of during rain had hid half the slab. There is a lot of riding around in the air conditioned Texas State Park trucks though. The campsites are all mini drive throughs one after another with minimum separation. The number of vehicles on a site appears to be up to you. The fifth wheel, three trucks, and a boat on the first site on our loop made a tight fit. Directly across was a large trailer and three vehicles. Make sure you bring a scrub brush if you plan on using a picnic table. Be prepared to stop on a dime as the those towing boats to the boat ramp whip around corners.

Routine information: the park does not have laundry facilities and WiFi is spotty at best. Drop outs were numerous. This is not unusual at State Parks.

On Saturday around 11:30 AM I went out of the park to escort some family in the park for a cookout and over 20 vehicles were in line to get in the one open gate, yet the second gate with an air conditioned booth stayed closed. Three personnel in the office, one gate, people lined up to get in. Service is not in the equation at this park. We were at least 15 back when we drove in.

The bathrooms deserve their own paragraph. To start with there is not a soap dispenser in any bathroom in the park. When I asked why I was told people steal them and Then "I have worked here for 8 years and we have never had soap in the bathrooms". I challenged this by asking what about employees of the state using the bathrooms, the reply was they are not handling food. Not sure this is legal, but it is disgusting. My wife witnessed two little (9-10) girls totally stunned on what to do without soap. They kept repeating to each other "There's no soap" This was a first and hopefully a last for me. Even the dingiest gas station bathrooms have soap. The bathrooms were filthy at best. Trash on floors, dirt and grime on all horizontal surfaces. There are no fans or ventilation of any type in the bathrooms so the heat is unbearable. It was 100 degrees during the day during our stay. The hand dryers are all rusted and at least 8 years old and though not stolen. The shower curtains do cover a solid 3/4 of the opening so don't be shy. There is only one barrier per stall in some bathrooms, not the double curtain or double door that you find in decent state parks. We tried multiple bathrooms throughout the park trying to find a compromise. An old 10" x 18" bench type board looked to scary to use. We did drive to the far end of the park to use the showers one night and these were only unacceptable. I did ask on our second day camping for the bathroom near our campsite to be cleaned and was told they are cleaned daily. I said I have been watching the same trash on the floor, in and on the shower stalls for two days. I will call someone then. I asked about all the dirt daubers (wasps) in the bathrooms and was told; "Don't worry they won't bother you." Not once was there a "Thanks for bringing that to our attention." This place sure misses the normal Texas pride. Unlike my past experience the facilities for the bathrooms for the campers are the same ones in use by the day use people. This makes the experience even worse on weekends.

The shame is; with the proper attention to detail on cleanliness, some basic maintenance, enforcement of rules, and an attitude change by the staff, this could be a good park. Don't get me wrong the staff wasn't rude, just complacent. Currently the park caters to the day users who don't seem to care about the long term impact of their actions and the staff has joined them rather than correct them.

If you are looking for a beautiful spot to camp in a tent or RV, this is the place. We like to fish and so we asked for a spot near the lighted fishing pier. RV spots 22 and 23 are closest to the pier. Full shade morning and afternoon are on lots 3, 7, 8, 19, & 20. Afternoon shade are on lots 1, 2, 13, & 23. All the RV spots on this loop are pull thru. The lighted pier is excellent and has a very nice cleaning station just as you come back to land. They have a second fishing pier in another location but we didn't go to see it.

The best in the contiguous USA and we've been to them all. Texas State Parks do not waste time putting little stickers on sites. All reservations are non site spacific, FCFS. You're assured of a spot but not any specific spot. It makes so much sense. The website is a bit tedious in that it doesn't store your information so check in takes longer than it should. Buy an annual pass and you get 4 nites free. ($70) and free access to any park for a year. Wonderful system and they don't penalize out of staters. All the parks are wonderful besides being the best system in the country.

My husband and I stayed two nights (Friday & Saturday) at Corpus Christi State Park in February. The weather was unseasonably warm (60’s at night and 80’s during the day). We parked our 27 foot trailer and truck in campsite #20 in the Opossum Bend Loop campground ($20/night). It was a fantastic spot. Campsites 22 and 23 were a little better. That campground has 20/30 electric and water. Many of the sites had great views of the lake and were close to the new 400 foot fishing pier and swimming area. The Javelina Campground has full hookups and 50 electric ($25/night). They do not have good views of the lake and seemed more crowded but still nice. We enjoyed fishing. We caught Catfish with stink bait and Drum with worms. Most people fishing with minnows had no luck. There are not many hiking trails. Do not miss the seeing the old Pavilion. You can walk in the pavilion, walk up to the second floor for nice views and walk down the staircase behind the building to another viewing platform. We saw lots of different birds. The daily entrance fee is $5 for adults (kids over 12). An annual Texas State pass ($70) will get everyone in your vehicle in for free and give you some camping discounts. We give this park a big thumbs up.

We arrived late, traveling from Florida to Mexico. All non electric sites had roughly 3 inches of bat guano on tables and bats nesting in
Picnic tables covers. Found site with water and electricity, got setup only to have hosts ask us to move due to prior reservations. We moved but the folks never showed up. There was not a reservation notification on that site. Went to take a shower in the bathroom marked as having shower in bathroom. No shower present. Host definitely should have told us this. I took a shower via the site water faucet while my senior mother wandered in the dark to find a shower. When we checked out the next morning, the hosts were condescending and made it out to be our fault for not knowing about bats. We wil never stay here again. The customer service is deplorable at best.
