Fresh off the smash success of The Phantom of the Opera, it seemed Andrew Lloyd Webber could do no wrong in 1989. That is, until he collaborated with lyricists Don Black and Charles Hart on Aspects of Love, a decidedly down-to-earth story (based on David Garnett's short novel) involving various love triangles and quadrangles that left audiences cold. That said, however, it does contain some extremely beautiful, intimate music. The opening anthem, "Love Changes Everything," is almost a standard, and the duet "Seeing Is Believing," with its string accompaniment, is almost achingly gorgeous. In this original London cast recording, Michael Ball, coming off his own triumph in Les Misérables, delivers his usual strong-voiced, oh-so-earnest performance, while Ann Crumb, Kevin Colson, and Diana Morrison contribute in the most significant roles of their careers. --David Horiuchi

The first recording of webber I ever heard was Phantom and I fell in love with his writing style I have speant a lot of money On all his cast albums that I own (and i do own ALL of them ).
My favorite prior to owning aspects was Jesus Christ Superstar , (and I sitll rank it a close second), but here we see webbers ability to write non- rock style music , and just have a piece of art that the little theater on main street could do , but is still worthy of the big time west end or broadway theater that seats 1000 ...
The show begins with "love changes everyting" sung by Alex (the main charecter) played wonderfully be micheal ball in this recording, this song sets the mood for the show , and is is one Helluva song!
I also like " the mermaid song" and "seeing is believing" those are wondeful pieces.
Let me clear up something..... ALEX IS NOT AN ANTAGONIST IN THIS SHOW it is clearly GEORGE , alex is just in a unfortunate position!
All in all 5 stars and I URGE you to get this recording ... but first check out "the complete aspects of love " from your local library and read the libretto , then get this you will not regret it !

Caught up in the magic of a new and everlasting real life love affair, I lived every bar, every beat, every nuance, as a sterling troop of actors spun Andrew Loyd Weber's tale into my heart. I was, from the moment I sat anxiously as the curtain rose in the darkened London theater, and still am to this day, captivated. One of my favorite theater experiences of all time. As an avid theater attendee with literally hundreds of curtain risings across much of the globe, I feel qualified to share this with the world. I never fathomed what the American audiences found to crush Aspects of Love, thereby rendering it into oblivion, out of my normal repetition for something so, in my mind, deserving. For anyone who has been truly in love, I commend it to their innermost emotions.
The catch: the score is magical.
Andrew Lloyd Webber really created something special here. The musical themes create a musical fabric that ties the whole piece together. It is powerful and dramatic. Besides that, the music is just flat-out tuneful and enjoyable.
Be glad you never saw this turkey on the stage. Get this CD, and you'll get everything that was wonderful about Aspects.

Despite the delay, this is definately a 5 Star ***** rating.

Also if you by the excellent remastered version there are extra tracks not in the original release. Plus the tracks are separately marked and Not just one long track as stated by a previous reviewer. A great addition to your Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection.
