Fundamentally refurbished Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow is to host seven 2018 FIFA World Cup games, including the opening and final matches. If you’re planning to watch any of those live, you’d better come prepared. We’ve put together a list of things that’ll come in handy, when you’re at Europe’s eight largest stadium.

Background

Built in 1956, Luzhniki Olympic Complex has hosted many spectacular events, including 1980 Summer Olympics. The original stadium was demolished in 2013 to be rebuilt for 2018 FIFA World Cup. The revamped stadium lost its athletics tracks and its capacity expanded to hold 81 000 people.

Luzhniki Stadium is relatively close to the city center, so getting there shouldn’t be a problem, especially for FanID holders, who’ll enjoy free rides on Moscow’s ground transportation, metro and Central Circle. The stadium is a walking distance from two Metro stations: Sportivnaya and Vorobyovy Gory. Also, you can try out Moscow Central Circle Railway aka MCC – Luzhniki station on the MCC is located close to the stadium.

To do around Luzhniki Stadium

Luzhniki isn’t considered Russia’s national stadium for nothing. The monumental building is an attraction in its own right and the territory of Luzhniki Complex is home to over 20 sport-themed monuments. The stadium is located right near the picturesque Luzhnetskaya embankment, which is part of an extensive pedestrian zone, that encompasses Vorobyovy Gory with one of the seven Stalinist skyscrapers, Moscow State University, and Gorky Park with the dreamy Neskuchny Garden – the oldest in the city.
