Hannibal Heyes (Pete Duel) and Kid Curry (Ben Murphy) are a couple of robber outlaws running up against train and banking industries that have adapted to all of the methods they have been using to rob them, adopting stronger, more advanced safes and faster response times through communications technology. So, when they hear of the governor's offer of amnesty to criminals, they decide to try for it by asking an old friend, now a sheriff, to advocate for them. While talking to him, though, the town banker's daughter, acting manager for the bank, overhears part of the conversation and mistakes them for banking and security experts named Misters Smith and Jones. So, she winds up trapping them into working at…
Butch and Sundance inspired cash-in that proved enormously popular, especially here in the UK, but ended tragically when Pete Duel committed suicide.
Pete Duel and Ben Murphy as Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry, the sweetest boys! I may have forgotten how truly adorbz these dorks are, but I never forgot that Kid Curry’s quickdraw is so fast it could never be captured on film.
Pilotmovie that started the early 70's westernseries created by Glen Larson, who years later would produce the famous series Buck Rogers and Knight Rider.
Two outlaws are trying to get amnesty for their crimes. The only thing they have to do is stay out of trouble for a year.
It's a fun show to watch, simple stories but a lot of humor and action.
After this pilot the series gained popularity.
Sadly Pete Duel who portrayed Hannibal Hayes committed suicide during the second season. The producers wanted to end the show but where obligated by contract to deliver episodes to the network.
Roger Davis was hired to play the part of Hannibal Hayes but that was no succes. Ratings dropped and the series was cancelled after the 3th season and 50 episodes.
50th anniversary viewing. Enjoyable enough TV western which serves as an effective launchpad for the forthcoming series. Strengthened by the charismatic leads and a cast of familiar faces, but Smith and Jones are no Butch and Sundance.
Amiable buddy movie that led to the successful TV show. Pete Duel and Ben Murphy's chemistry is off the charts great which is what made this a standout during its run until Duel's suicide.
Pete Duel RIP. I didn't realize he had killed himself in 1971. I barely remember this but I remember thinking it was pretty cool as a 12 year old
