Not every film franchise has the where with all to make it to a fourth movie. But when they do it's often considered an amazing rebirth of a film series or it completely kills the quadrilogy. Usually when a series makes it this far, it has built a degree of goodwill with its fans and if a fourth film does arrive, fans will go see it regardless of what film critics or naysayers may argue about the merits of the franchise. The number of the movies that have made it to a fourth film are action movies with a major movie star.

Movies franchise that started in the '80s are well represented on this list. And with good reason A lot of the movies that made it to its fourth incarnation are pretty great. Star Trek IV:The Voyage Home, Rambo and Rocky IV are two examples of awesome fourth films from that time, while Lethal Weapon 4 and Live Free or Die Hard may not have been made in that time period, but they both started in the '80s. No can dispute that in the pantheon of greatest fourth films, that these two are up there.
