what are some ghost stories you've heard about Calgary?
Rose & Crown is haunted, it was formerly a funeral home. Apparently, you can see a balloon floating by the bar sometimes.
Yes. My sister and I had a scary experience there one night. Let's just say us and a staff member heard and witnessed something.
You can't say something like that and not drop details.
I bet the closed macloed underpass would set off a ghost o meter
What old MacLeod underpass? Where is this? Is this like the underpass at Memorial and Barlow that's been capped off?
At Chinook: https://youtu.be/W-7SQ9-ZmV4
That is sketchy as fuck. Who in their right mind thought that was a good idea???
I believe they're talking about the one at Chinook centre
Yeah, that place was creepy
Le Germain Hotel is haunted. I worked there when it opened and the construction workers always said creepy stuff happened, especially in the parkade. One of the things I heard the most was feeling like someone was tugging on your clothes for attention.
When it was being built, a bundle of unsecured steel fell from the roof and killed a 3 year old girl.

The Pumphouse Theatre!
The old pump is (was? I haven't been there in ages) still in the basement. People used to fall into the pumps while working back in the day and it's said that they stuck around after.
I used to help some family out that work there - helping strike sets and clear out stuff at the end of a show, things like that. Usually just my aunt and I kicking around. Plenty of nights I'd hear a piano playing (definitely no piano in there by that point) or the sound of boot steps. The lights would turn off and on often. Sound board would kick back on after being shut down. Sometimes you'd hear the rattle of equipment.
To be fair, it's an old building and that can explain almost any "weird" thing that happens, but man, it has an eerie vibe.
Heritage hall at SAIT. Tons of staff members have stories of odd stuff happening there. Was a hospital after WW1 and a few other odd things.
The hose and hound has a monkey buried there! https://thehose.ca/history.php
What are the stories on them being haunted?
I'll just copy and paste some stuff
Devil's Playground: Listed as one of the most haunted places in Canada, the story of Devil’s Playground starts when an old schoolhouse burned down. A fire started in a hallway and claimed the lives of three children. Over the years people would report the sound of children playing around the charred foundation. Other stories tell of wrecking crews having malfunctions when they came to develop the area.
Deane House: At least three ghost stories are told about Deane House, perhaps the most haunted building in town. People have told of seeing a mysterious man with a pipe, an aboriginal man telling trespassers to leave his sacred ground, while others have heard laughter in the halls. Built for the Superintendent of Fort Calgary, the home has seen stabbings, suicides, and peculiar deadly accidents over the years.
Zoo Bridge: In 1946, Donnie Goss was playing in the park when a man lured him away with an offer of toys. The six-year-old was murdered under the bridge and Emergency Services in Calgary are reportedly still called to the site two or three times a year with reports from people saying they’ve heard a child crying for help.
Grace Hospital: Old Grace Hospital located on 8th Ave NW has a few paranormal occurrences of its own. Apparently, the ghost of a woman who is said to be a family member of the owner of the land OG was built on (isn't that a mouthful) is haunting the halls of the maternity ward. Legend has it, the woman died giving birth to her baby (who also didn't survive childbirth) in the hospital and has been haunting the maternity ward since. She is said to be seen weeping and holding her baby. If that doesn't send utter chills down your spine, I don't know what will.
Rouge Restaurant: Formerly known as Cross House, Rouge has many peculiar happenings that has turned chef and owner Paul Rogalski into a ghost believer. Pots and pans have been known to fly around, doors will open and close, and so has a vault. Mediums claim the home is haunted by the ghosts of Helen Cross and her three-year-old daughter Nellie. Some have also spotted a young girl and her father sitting by a fireplace.
Suitor House: Now the office of a doctor, Suitor House was once home to a railroad worker who was killed. Heartbroken, his wife died soon after. Lights have been known to flicker in the building and people have reported seeing a woman in a long white dress with flowing black hair standing on the balcony.
Centennial Planetarium: They say there is a ghost named Sam who wanders around at night. He is completely harmless, but he is responsible for a couple night guards quitting.
where is this one? I'm finding conflicting info
St Georges Bridge
between Inglewood and St Patrick's Island
Is Deane house the one where someone took a pic of their family in a chair and later it looked like a hand was coming from behind the chair?
I worked on the Deane house when it was being renovated. I’ve been all alone in every part of that house while it was dark outside but I never saw any ghosts!
Surprised no one mentioned New Horizon yet
Very few have been there.... :o
probably only suicides from people that locked in a lease for a great business opportunity selling trinkets.
Lmao is it actually already haunted
Bow Valley Ranche,
"The Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant, which started life in 1896 as a private ranch house, is home to its own ghostly staff member. A CAPI team spent a night at the restaurant investigating reports of silverware moving around mysteriously and of managers, having shut down for the evening, looking back and seeing the restaurant’s lights on.
Bengert said a Chinese cook, Charlie, is believed to be one of the spirits haunting the building. He worked at the ranch house during the early-20th century. On a trip home to China, however, he fell ill and died"
This location is also extremely close to an old buffalo jump. I stumbled upon it when I was young.
Oh cool, do you remember(roughly) where that is?
Might be too recent for a haunting, but this past winter a man set himself on fire not far from the Ranche.
Not sure if the Cat and Fiddle has had any spooky thing happen because it was a funeral parlor before. I know this because we had my brother's funeral there in 1986. No, I haven't been there since lol
According to a lot of people that have worked there, the basement of the Grain Exchange building.
Supposedly the old AGT building on the NW corner of 14th Street and Kensington Road.
There is a private residence off Elbow Drive in Elbow Park, a large, older, white house, that used to be high on the list of haunted properties in Calgary until the owners got annoyed enough by the attention that they actively had it stricken from those lists, and not it has managed to fade into obscurity.
Numerous places in Heritage Park apparently. I worked there for about 2 years, heard numerous stories but don't think I've experienced anything myself. The vast majority of the buildings have been brought in from towns around Alberta, very few structures stand on their original ground.
There are some eerie areas, like the abandoned trapper's cabin, which stands along the west bank overlooking the reservoir. It used to be an accessible attraction but now is mostly run down.
Do they really just let some places like the trappers cabin go? I’m pretty surprised
I went down there about three or four years ago and it was still there. Riding around the reservoir a couple weeks ago I noticed that there seems to be some construction going on in that area of the park. Wouldn't be surprised if it's been removed now.
What's the devils playground?!?!?
The Devil's Playground is an old (now destroyed) house that is said to be the location of a school fire that killed 3 children. People claim to hear children playing, and a lot of poltergeist type stuff. It's quite interesting. There's a documentary on it.

Is that the one that shows handprints if you have a dusty bumper?
This is crazy! How have I never heard of this before! The below CBC article places it at 9 Ave & 84 St SE
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/devil-s-playground-documentary-calgary-comic-expo-1.4079459
Yeah it was right where the East Hills area is now.
Telus Spark? I though ghosts usually haunt old places.
My mistake! I meant Centennial Planetarium.
You've herd of none. Ghosts don't exist.
