Synopsis

The situation is liberally drawn from Swinburne's poem. Mary Maudsley, daughter of the Black Panther of Paris--a ruthless destroyer of men and mistress of a gambling house--grows up in the care of her adopted father, who believes that the environment he provides will counteract any tendencies she may have inherited from her mother. Just as she seems about to be led into a career patterned after her mother's she reveals herself to be self-sacrificing and capable of a genuine love.
