Fascinating way to learn about China’s history! Option to buy great gifts / souvenirs
Address is 726 Yananxi Rd, if you Didi type in Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre. It’s on the 7th floor. Beautiful collection with descriptions / history to help you learn more about China’s past. There is a lovely souvenir shop where you can buy very affordable replicas, or invest in original pieces. The owner is very kind and can help steer you in the direction of what you’re interested in.

    Fascinating Museum of Chinese history
The Propaganda Poster Museum is a very special place. I never thought there would be a place that conserved chinese history so well. There are a lot of explanations alongside the posters and you can really feel that the owners put a lot of thought into the display. At the end of my visit I got the chance to talk to the owner who was very kind and gave me some deeper explanations on the posters and Chinese as well as Shanghainese history. If you’re interested in Chinese history and want to understand their view on the world more you should definitely visit this place!

Propaganda posters: Tucked away museum, small space but interesting exhibit
Small museum tucked away inside building without much obvious signage to help. However, once found it, lots of exhibits categorised into eras/subject. Interesting for a look through for most people, I feel for those highly interested in the subject there's lots to dig through. Paid for ticket on entry.

    Quirky museum, worth a visit
I wish I had read the reviews. They would have saved me a lot of time trying to find this small quirky museum. Thankfully, the journey was worthwhile. The posters depict the flow of history in the 20th century and they can be appreciated as art in their own right.

    Exceptional must see visit
Must see visit. This museum is the result of the work of a single man who collected these original posters. These are witnesses of times gone but give a glimpse of times gone by. The museum is small but has a good sample of what was used at the time to manipulate the people. Since this museum is the initiative of one single, very nice, man, one should visit it as long as it lasts. Fortunately he produced several booklets with photos of these posters. The place is not easy to find as inside a big building but with some patience one can get there.

    A great time machine
The museum is a fantastic time machine bringing you back to a bygone era in China. The posters were engaging and interesting to watch. You can easily spend and hour here. There is also a good museum shop where you can even buy original posters. Finding the museum was a bit tricky. It is located between two banks on Yannan road.

Didi navigation knows the place but it's a non-descriptive office building and the museum is located on 7th floor. Posters / pictures with Chinese and English context are provided and super interesting to see how these supported the various themes throughout China's 20th century history! Takes 30 min but worth visiting. I walked from Jing An temple here in 15 min.

As others have written, this place has recently moved. Google Maps had it listed under its old location (in the basement of some apartment complex) but that's not right anymore. The address listed here is correct.

No photos allowed in the museum, sadly, but it's well worth a visit. The posters all have translations of the captions into English (some in French, too) and many of them also have a few paragraphs of interpretation and context.

My experience is that Chinese people use the word "propaganda" unironically and without any hint of negativity that English-speakers usually do. Looking at these posters, some of which I'd seen in books before, I was amazed at how quotidian some of them are, and how powerful and striking others were as well. I certainly appreciated the view into a part of Chinese history that gets represented through a particular lens in US education. I also appreciated looking at what is openly labeled propaganda, and how that made me think about what we see in the US that is not so openly labeled propaganda (but is obviously and clearly analogous).

Take the time to visit this museum. It's got a great little gift shop where I bought far too many postcards, and they have a nice collection of books and even original copies of Mao's little red book in multiple languages. They also have posters of varying sizes for sale.

So interesting to see. Amazing pieces on display. Even has whacky N Korean propaganda magazines from the 70s published in English and French. The proprietor, Mr. Yang, is also a very gracious host. An extremely nice man with a fun story or two himself!

First off, the place is difficult to find. Go to 726 builidng, and enter the entrance under the arch thing between the two banks. Turn right, and take the elevator to the 7th floor.

The museum is quite small, but we'll stocked. There are a couple of hundred posters perhaps to look at.

But, if you are a history nerd like myself, the gift shop is the star of the show. Original posters from the 60s... Original copies of the little red book in various languages, busts of Mao, old maps, old textbooks, old magazines... This place is a treasure trove, and will satisfy history buffs from a tiny budget of ¥150 for three copies of posters, to over ¥6k for rare originals, and everything in between.

All these reviews say hard to find, which is true, but few give you any useful directions, so here goes! Take the subway (line 2) to Jiangsu Lu and use exit 4. Leave the station and turn left following the road to the left at the lights. Walk down this road, go straight on across the large footbridge and continue till you can see the Radisson Blu Hotel right in front of you. Turn left onto Huashan Road and walk about 500m, you will see a small supermarket and an ICBC bank on your left. Immediately after this is the entrance to the President Residences, the museum is in the basement of building B, as you enter the residence area the security will give you a little piece of paper to guide you to the building. You will see no signs at all until you arrive at the basement of building B.You really feel like you are trespassing into some private residences, but it really is worthwhile, the artwork on display here is unique and the museum owner is very approachable and knowledgeable about Chinese social history of the 20th century. The gift shop is pretty cool too. Thoroughly recommended.
