Hello, if it is okay I will like to leave my name anonymous. The experience that I have had with this school in four years has been kind to me, the staff even remember me, The education I get is manageable and the principle pushes a lot of opportunities and actives for the students. I have not been very active these years, making it hard to tell whether the sports and after school interests are suitable, but you even get adjusted to the "bad" kids, it was a nice experience at Petersburg High school, minus the food, property damage, and violence.
I am a senior at Petersburg High School in Petersburg VA. I have been a part of the Petersburg Education System since I was in the 9th grade. My school is known for its horrendous amounts of violence, gang activity, low attendance rates, and low test scores. My school is not accredited because of these low test scores and attendance rates. There is almost 0 diversity at the school. The school is made up of mostly African American students, and a handful of Hispanic and White students. Fights and bullying are very prominent at the school. However, we have a very nice fine arts system at the school along with CTE courses. Such as culinary arts, carpentry, fashion, and many more. I have dedicated my self to making my high school a better learning environment.
After virtual, I only went to Petersburg High School physically for one year as a sophomore before doing the Middle College Program offered at Richard Bland College. I did not like going to the school, mostly because of my personality and how I am. I am a quiet, academically focused person and there were always fights/class interruptions. It was very rowdy, and it seems even the teachers are tired of their jobs sometimes. I honestly hated going there every day so much that I believe it made me feel sad all the time. Getting the opportunity to switch to Richard Bland College was like a blessing in disguise. I am now happier than I ever was going to high school, maybe it was just a better fit for me and the type of person I am. Since I am not there anymore, I will list things that would have made my experience better. Students' behaviors definitely, better lunch because I always brought my lunch, and maybe the teachers could have some enthusiasm when teaching the students every day.
