Supuse que cuando estaría de misiones en Perú solo daría a personas que me rodeaban. Nunca supuse que, a su vez, volverían a fluir dentro de mí. La hospitalidad, gratitud y amor que experimenté mientras trabajaba en Arequipa es algo que nunca olvidaré. Aunque mi español es limitado, el lenguaje del amor es algo que se entiende universalmente y algo que nunca dejé de recibir mientras estaba en misión. Nunca soñé que mi fe me llevaría al Perú y al patio del colegio, al asilo, al mercado y a las calles de Arequipa en las que trabajábamos. Originalmente me dijeron que íbamos a ayudar a construir una gruta para la escuela, ¡pero terminamos haciendo mucho más! Tuvimos la oportunidad de ayudar a enseñar a los niños pequeños, visitar y bailar con los ancianos, conocer a algunos estudiantes universitarios y alabar y adorar con ellos, y hacer visitas a hogares. La gente que conocí en Arequipa ha dejado un impacto duradero en mi corazón y el viaje es algo que nunca olvidaré. Además, nuestros anfitriones me permitieron ver verdaderamente cómo Dios se revela a través de la hospitalidad y el amor de los demás. Las personas que pude encontrar, las experiencias que adquirí y la hospitalidad que recibí cambiaron para siempre mi relación con Dios y con los demás.
I assumed that when I went on my mission trip to Peru that I would only be giving to those around me. I never assumed that they would, in turn, pour right back into me. The hospitality, gratitude, and love that I experienced while working in Arequipa is something that I will never forget. Although my Spanish is limited, the language of love is something that is universally understood and something I never once stopped receiving while on mission. I never dreamed that my faith would take me to Peru and to the school yard, the elderly home, the marketplace, and the streets of Arequipa that we worked at. I was originally told that we were going to help build a Grotto for the school, but we ended up doing so much more! We had the opportunity to help teach the little kids, visit and dance with the elderly, meet some university students and do praise and worship with them, and do home visits. The people I met in Arequipa have left a lasting impact on my heart, and my trip is something I will never forget. Additionally, our hosts allowed me to truly see how God reveals Himself through the hospitality and love of others. The people I was able to encounter, the experiences I gained, and the hospitality I received has forever changed my relationship with God and with others.
