It's a typical Jamie Oliver Cookbook - nicely put together - very easy to understand - dead easy to follow the well written recipes and he provides us with a nice colour photograph of how the finished dish should look. Not that it always does in my case!
Each left hand page shows you the 5 ingredients down the left side and has the nutritional info along the bottom. The right hand page is a full colour photograph of the finished dish. Really plain and easy to follow.
I have already made the Asian Fried eggs which were delicious and I'm making the Nutty Kale Salad for my dinner in work tonight.
If you want to see what's inside before you buy - here's a list of the dishes/recipes in order as they are presented in the book. . . .

There's nutritional notes at the back of this book in regards to how to balance your plate with Veg and Fruit - carbs - Proteins - Dairy - fats and Oils.
I really like this one from Jamie. It's clear, concise and very easy to follow. As somebody who grows theIr own veg I found there's loads of good veggie options in here too. Loving the egg dishes in here as well. I think I'll be buying a few for christmas for foodie freinds.
Recommended.
Brought as a gift for son, he likes it
I think it's because of course he's such a household name, but equally the concept - just five ingredients - is something that ordinary Joe and Josephines like us can manage to rustle up. In other words it's just practical and realistic!
'Would highly recommend as a gift!
Cons:
Too many chilli recipes. I’ve got a 4 year old who won’t even eat spicy food. So that rules out a lot of the recipes. I can hear some people say, just take out the chilli. Well, I can’t because the chilli is in the curry paste or seasoning (rendang seasoning) which can be 1 of 5 of the ingredients.
Uses alcohol in a lot of recipes. We don’t drink alcohol so there’s a lot of substitutions with ginger ale or grape juice or non alcoholic drinks or just stock, this can get a bit annoying when you seeing in almost every meal worth making.
Not many “quick recipes.” They all take at least 40minutes.
There is no prep work, you chop as things are on the go. This can result in a bomb site of a kitchen. And there always is with this cookbook.
You will end up buying ingredients which you only use once for that one recipe and nowhere else. But there is a solution to that: go to the index and check for the ingredient you don’t know how to continue using, you’ll get some good ideas. Or make the same meal next week. Or make a bigger batch and freeze the rest.
I don’t really like the flavour profiles used in Chinese cuisine and there’s a lot of recipes with that cuisine. I enjoyed more traditional English cuisine and Italian cuisine.
It’s a nice cookbook overall but I prefer 7 ways for a great book to help you meal plan the rest of your week. Also its got more food that’s not spicy.
Top reviews from other countries
Almost every store I have been in carries Gochujang, but often the paste is called “Korean chili paste” or something along those lines. This is the paste used to flavor Kimchi. Chili Jam would, in the States, be similar to Sweet Chili Sauce, but you could use Red Pepper Jelly instead.
And complaining about using grams is easily resolved by getting a gram scale, or simply printing out a conversion chart from the internet.
For vegans or vegetarians, there are plenty of substitutions easily available, or, as I often do, you can make your own on a lazy Sunday. Hearts of Palm makes a good substitute for scallops, vegan ground beef can be found in virtually any grocery store. It takes me 10 minutes to make vegan cheese. I use “The Herbivorous Butcher” to make great roasts and even bologna”
Jamie’s recipes are simple, easy to follow, and delicious, as well as well balanced and nutritious.
