Davinson Sanchez set for Premier League return, West Ham linked

Davinson Sanchez set for Premier League return as £18.8m West Ham United transfer news emerges

West Ham United are looking to strengthen their defence next season, and are interested in former Tottenham Hotspur man Davinson Sanchez, according to Dirilis Postasi.

The Turkish news outlet reported on 3 May that current club Galatasaray may be ready to flip Sanchez for a profit and could opt to sell him for £18.8million.

Sanchez’s next move could be career-defining with the centre-back now 27, and talk of the ex-Spurs man could intensify as both Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma have been rumoured to be off to Saudi Arabia.

The Colombian international left London for Istanbul last September, joining Galatasaray, and has played 28 times for the Turkish Super Lig leaders, scoring three goals and keeping nine clean sheets.

Would Sanchez deal suit West Ham?

With over 200 appearances during his six years at Tottenham, Sanchez is the type of proven defender West Ham may require in their bid to become a top-six club next year.

The deal makes sense – particularly with the East Londoners potentially about to be forced into a significant squad turnover as stars are linked away from the London Stadium.

The Hammers would be expected to be rivalled by other Premier League and European clubs for Sanchez, who was recently also linked with Newcastle United.

It could be a deal – were West Ham to get it over the line – that turns out win-win, with Galatasaray expected to make back almost double their investment after less than a year.

One stumbling block that could make Sanchez hesitant is the uncertainty over the managerial position at the London Stadium, with recent developments pitting Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui as prime candidates.

In other West Ham news, the club confirm Kalvin Phillips will return to Manchester City this summer.
