Today we hosted the ACT South Canberra School Chess Competition in the War Memorial Hall, with two of our CGS Chess Teams placing an outstanding First and Third! There were over 60 students who competed from various schools in South Canberra. It was a tough competition and all the students involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves, helping to build their confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills.

Our inaugural CGS Alumni Women's Network event kicked off with a vibrant panel discussion on the morning of Friday, 17 May. Bringing together some of the most accomplished and driven women from within our CGS community, our Alumni and Senior School students—who will soon join the ranks of Alumni—were warmly welcomed with a breakfast before diving into an invigorating discussion with our panel at Tim Murray Theatre.

A big thank you to Simonetta Astolfi, Claire Dawson, Emma Ryan, and CGS Alumni Paris McMahon (CGS 2020) for volunteering their time and expertise. Sharing your insights and experiences is invaluable and greatly appreciated. It's through these shared experiences that we can learn, grow, and empower each other to reach new heights in our careers. By coming together to share our knowledge and expertise, we create a supportive network that inspires & fosters success for every stage in your career journey. We look forward to many more empowering events like this in the future!

This past weekend we held our Indigenous and Alumni Rugby rounds. An Indigenous smoking ceremony began the day which saw CGS students and staff, parents, and Daramalan students come together on the Main Oval before the rounds commenced.

The games kicked off with the U/11s and finished with the 1st XII and 1st XV, who entered the field through the chants of the CGS tunnel comprised of our Alumni and Primary and Senior students. There were wins and losses, but most importantly, everyone came together to create a memorable and truly great day for Canberra Grammar School and the wider community.
