2024 hasn’t had the wall-to-wall content that the streamers provided for us in 2023. But when a week gives us four new dramas to enjoy, it’s hard to complain. Two of this week’s series — Netflix’s Sweet Tooth and Paramount+’s Criminal Minds: Evolution — are back with new seasons. Meanwhile Disney+’s The Acolyte and Hulu’s Clipped are new shows. Between those four series, you’ve got a lot of TV to catch up on this weekend.

June isn’t over yet, as both The Boys season 4 and House of the Dragon season 2 are on the horizon. So check back here every Friday as we update the best new shows to stream. Your next favorite binge is below.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Max, Disney+, Paramount+, Peacock, and Apple TV+ all have one thing in common: They’re more expensive than they used to be! We can live with higher rates as long as new shows keep coming, but it’s always a good idea to consider signing up for the ad-supported tiers, which are worth it if you can sit through a few commercials. If it can save you some money on your streaming bill, it’s worth it.

When you’re done here, check out the best new movies to stream this week, as well as the best shows on Netflix, best shows on Hulu, best shows on Amazon Prime Video, and best shows on Disney+.

Over a century before the Star Wars prequels, someone is going around killing Jedi in The Acolyte. Suspicion immediately falls on Osha Aniseya (Amandla Stenberg), the former apprentice of Jedi Master Sol (Squid Game season 2‘s Lee Jung-jae). In an instant, it’s as if the universe has turned on Osha as even her friends believe she’s a murderer.

The reality is more disturbing. A Sith is orchestrating the murders for his Acolyte to perform, and now there are only two names left on their hit list — including Sol himself.

If you know anything about the NBA, then you’ve probably heard that the Clippers are the “other” team in Los Angeles behind the Lakers. FX’s Clipped takes a dramatized look back at one of the most turbulent times in the franchise’s history. Coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) has put together a team that can win, but Clippers owner Donald Sterling (Ed O’Neill) just can’t seem to stop interfering in his work.

Donald has his own problems, as his wife, Shelly Sterling (Jacki Weaver), is angry that Donald’s mistress, V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman), is increasingly public about their relationship. When the Sterlings try to reclaim some of the lavish gifts that Donald has given to Stiviano, she retaliates by releasing recordings of him that could bring down his basketball operation.

Before Imogen can get to the truth about Adilah’s identity, both women are forced to go on the run in order to survive. Can Imogen trust her unexpected travel companion? And if Imogen fails to extract all of Adilah’s secrets, then she may not be the only one who suffers the consequences.

Unlike the current season of Doctor Who, Criminal Minds: Evolution fully embraces that it is the 17th season of a police procedural drama that goes back to 2005. Last season, David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (AJ Cook), and the rest of the Behavioral Analysis Unit team uncovered a network of serial killers that was formed in the wake of the pandemic.

While the BAU identified and captured Elias Voit (Zach Gilford), the man behind the serial killer network, he still finds ways to be a thorn in their side in the new season. There’s also a new mystery on the horizon that may push the BAU team to their limits.

The “mayor” is back in Mayor of Kingstown season 3, but if Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) thought things were going to get easier, then he’s in for a rude awakening. Russian criminals are muscling their way into Kingstown, and they don’t care who they have to hurt or kill to claim power.

It might take some unlikely alliances to keep the Russians from taking the criminal underworld out from under them. And this is a battle where Mike has a lot to lose if he backs down.

Things are getting extremely personal for Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) in the fourth and final season of Evil. For the last three seasons, Kristen has worked alongside Father David Acosta (Mike Colter) and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) to investigate supernatural occurrences on behalf of the Catholic Church despite the fact that Kristen and Ben are both skeptics. And Sister Andrea (Andrea Martin) has since joined the team as well.

Now, Kristen’s nemesis, Dr. Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson), has some very dark plans for her frozen eggs as part of a conspiracy with Kristen’s own mother, Sheryl (Christine Lahti). Their shared ambition may be crazy, but if there’s one thing that’s real in this show, it’s evil.

Evolve or die. One of the biggest problems facing the characters in Sweet Tooth’s third and final season is that many of the human characters would rather die than let the new human-animal hybrid children inherit the Earth. This is something that Gus (Christian Convery) has struggled with since he realized that some people would react badly to his half-deer features.

Season 3 starts with Gus and his friends on a long journey to Canada to reunite with Birdie (Amy Seimetz), the woman Gus is convinced is his mother. Birdie may be working on a cure for “the Sick” that has devastated the human population, but Gus is the one who has to decide whether humanity is worth saving at all.

Through the first two seasons of Bridgerton, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) believed that love had simply passed her by. But this season, Penelope moves from a supporting role into a romantic lead when Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) reenters her orbit.

Colin thoughtlessly insulted Penelope last season, and he nearly lost her as a friend. Now, more than anything else, he just wants to win back her affection. But as Colin earns Penelope’s forgiveness, they start feeling a mutual attraction that neither one of them believed would ever happen. However, since this is still Bridgerton, complications will inevitably arise that may keep them from finding love with each other.

Last season on Hacks, the show challenged its own premise by letting Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) complete her comeback as a comedian … followed by Deborah promptly firing Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), the much younger comedy writer who helped Deborah reclaim her career. Deborah may have acted with good intentions to propel Ava forward, but it seemed like the show would have a difficult time getting them back together again.

Hacks season 3 comes up with a new reason for Deborah and Ava to collaborate, even if both of them are falling back into familiar patterns to do so. The dynamics have changed because Ava has now found some success of her own. But Ava’s decision to come back to Deborah won’t always have the best outcome for either woman.

There must be a rule among streamers that each outlet needs a certain allotment of British TV series. Trying is one Apple TV+’s imports from the U.K., and it revolves around Jason Ross (Rafe Spall) and Nikki Newman (Esther Smith), a couple who desperately wanted to have a baby together. And when that didn’t work out, they decided to adopt.

During the third season, Jason and Nikki fought to adopt a pair of siblings, Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler (Cooper Turner). They won that battle, but there are more challenges ahead in the newly released fourth season that may fray the fragile bonds between the kids and their adoptive parents.

Best streaming deals: Sling TV, Hulu, Peacock, and more
streaming netflix high definition wont kill the internet featured image unsplash

Whether you're cutting the cord finally or looking for a new platform to watch some unique content, just know there are some excellent streaming deals out there for you. That's important since there are so many different streaming services to choose from nowadays. It doesn't make sense to subscribe to every single one, but instead to go with the services that offer the best deals, and the most content you like. Disney+, for example, may have more movies and shows you like to watch than Peacock, or maybe vice versa? Or, perhaps when you're ready to subscribe, the Disney bundle that includes Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ together for one low price is more enticing than a single subscription. Whatever the case, if you're looking for some solid streaming deals, you've come to the right place.

Amazon Prime Video
Getting right into it, Amazon Prime Video, specifically, does not have a free trial. However, Amazon Prime subscribers do get access to Prime Video with their retail subscription, and that has a free trial. There's a catch, though. If you signed up for an Amazon Prime free trial before, or have had Prime, either as a trial or paid membership, any time in the last 12 months the trial isn't available. If you haven't, and you meet the eligibility, you can sign up for a Prime free trial for up to a month.

The best romance shows on Netflix right now
Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan as Colin and Penelope looking at each other in Bridgerton.

There aren't many new romance shows on Netflix right now, but there are new seasons of some popular shows, and that's the next best thing! Netflix's breakout romantic drama, Bridgerton, is back for season 3 on May 16. But since that season is being split into two halves, you'll have to wait until June 13 to see the remaining episodes.

The other good news for romance fans is that Netflix has now added the sixth season of Starz's time-traveling romance drama Outlander. There was a two-year gap between the premiere of Outlander season 6 on Starz and its streaming debut on Netflix. That may mean Outlander season 7 part 1 could come to Netflix in 2025.

Two men are covered in cake in Red, White & Royal Blue.

The romantic comedy is not what it used to be. The genre used to be a regular feature at the box office, and we could almost always count on getting at least one good one a year.

While that may no longer be the case, that doesn’t mean that the genre is totally dead, as 2023 has produced a couple of well-above-average rom-coms. We highlight the three best from the year so far below:
