God Kubrick was such an insufferable prick to Shelley Duvall it makes me legitimately mad.
That moment when the camera zoomes in on Jack Nicholson unbuckling his belt and unzipping his pants and you really get your hopes up for a BIG reveal and then he does the 🍆-whipping motion but instead of his d!ck he pulls out a microphone and in the next shot while he's taking off his shirt it focuses on his chest like !!!!!!!!THIS!!!!!!!! is why we need more women like Miss Vivian behind the camera, @ Stanley Kubrick's daughter the girls are grateful for your service <3
Shelley Duvall: 👁️👄👁️
Stanley Kubrick: Shelley, I will kill you if you even look at me.
Shelley Duvall:👁️👄👁️🚬
Jack Nicholson: 👉😎👉
This is probably my favorite "making of" doc of all time. One of the most fascinating (and only) looks into Kubrick's process. The stuff with Nicholson and Duvall is priceless. So interesting how Jack is just willing to go with anything and everything Kubrick suggests... and Duvall is just completely wilting. Can you imagine how bananas a Napoleon flick with Kubrick and Jack would have been?
This film really shows why actors always ended up loving Stanley no matter how much he fucked with them. He demanded perfection and was willing to wait for it as long as it took. Gosh I would watch a 4 hour cut of this...35 min is just too short. I watch it to get…
Did it hurt? As a Film Bro? To see vivian kubrick make a great documentary and then become a racist, anti-vax scientologist, suggesting that her father would’ve supported the proud boys if he were alive today, which sure certainly sounds like the ravings of an idiot but also does reflect an inherent tint of white supremacy underlying so much cinema made by Film Bro-approved directors?
Did it hurt?
gross. vivian kubrick was very good at portraying what she thought of the cast, and not in a good way. the majority of the scenes with her and jack nicholson, they’re flirting with each other (she was 17 he was 43). i listened to the dubbed over version where she explains what happens in the documentary and it’s very obvious she was infatuated with him, calling him a “sexy film star” LMFAO. also, it was really uncomfortable how often she filmed his crotch, and how often he unbuttoned his pants around her. the amount of times his crotch is filmed is way too many times... anyways, her view on shelley duvall is not so complimentary. the few scenes and videos…
no guys trust me this is fake i was absolutely not mean to shelley it was just a joke it was a haha goofy

12. Watch a film about... well, film! Any plot involving making a movie, seeing a movie, or acting in a movie will do. If you haven't yet seen King Kong '33, Peeping Tom or Fade to Black I highly recommend one of those. (Also acceptable are documentaries about movies
yes little danny lloyd you ARE smart
You don't get "making of" films like this anymore, much less ones among masters. This is not a studio dictated, bonus materials featurette where actors speak vaguely in front of well lit portions of the set. No, Making 'The Shining' is breathtakingly candid. Vivian Kubrick captures the humor, anguish, and romanticism of movie-making. It gives tangibility to the legend that is Kubrick and the genius that is Jack. To be on the ground with them and see them as exhausted, working humans is a real treat. It feels like peeking from behind a curtain and gazing into the mystique of one of the greatest American films.
It's so cute to think that the little girl in 2001: A Space Odyssey made this little gem of a documentary. It's heartwarming and funny at times, and also heartbreaking at some point especially every Duvall's sequence. Poor girl...
