How to play Minecraft offline on Windows 10

Many popular games start out as offline, or as single-player games. Their popularity leads developers to create online arenas where the same game can be played with multiple players. 

Minecraft is one of the most popular games that is played online. Countless servers for the game exist, anyone can create and set up a private server and invite their friends to join them, and the worlds built on those servers are huge. 

That said, and as great as playing online with multiple players is, Minecraft can be played offline and still be fun. An offline game has every single block, every resource, mob, biome, and all structures that you’ll find on a server.

An offline Minecraft world is a randomly generated map and it will be free of any user-made structures but you’ll find temples, manors, and villages as well as strongholds, fortresses, and other structures needed to ‘win’ the game.

Play Minecraft offline

To play Minecraft offline you need the app installed on your system. Any version will work; Java or the Microsoft Store version. If you do not buy the game i.e., you use the trial version, you will only be able to play for a short period of time, after which you will no longer be able to play.

1. Minecraft Java Version

To play Minecraft offline, and in single-player mode, follow these steps.

1. Open the Minecraft Launcher.
2. Click Single Player.
3. Enter a name for the new world that you will play in, or use a seed value.
4. Select a playing mode.
5. Click More World Options to manage the settings for the world; you can change most of them later at any time.
6. Click Create New World.
7. Once the map loads, you’re free to play offline, by yourself.

2. Minecraft Microsoft Store/Bedrock version

To play Minecraft offline, in single-player mode in the Microsoft Store/Bedrock version, follow these steps.

1. Open the Minecraft App.
2. Signing in to Xbox live isn’t necessary.
3. Click Play on the home screen.
4. On the Worlds tab, click Create New.
5. Select the ‘New World’ option and click Create New World again.

6. Enter a name for the world.
7. Change the play mode.
8. Change the settings for the world. You will be able to change most of them later.
9. Click the Create Button.
10. The map will load and you can start playing.

Saved offline Minecraft games

Minecraft worlds or games save to your local disk. The location differs based on which type of Minecraft version you’re running.

Local, offline Minecraft games for the Java version are saved in the following location;

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft

Local, offline Minecraft games for the Bedrock version are saved in the following location;

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds

The game folders don’t have user-friendly names but the folders you see are your games. Save these folders when you want to back a game up to another drive or to a cloud drive.
