moderate trail with some views

Nice quick loop, mostly unshaded

Beautiful clear skies, views of peninsula & ocean, still lots of wildflowers

Great Hike! Parking is a bit hassle but if you get there early, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Its a decent trail, with easy to moderate inclines. Not as much shade as mentioned by others. But lots of snakes, so be wary of the road.

Great and easy hike that is kid friendly. We could see traces of wildflowers but lots of great views along the way. Pay attention to the map as it is easy to how down the wrong path onto another trail. Also getting there early is always a good idea - we snagged the last spot at 9am but you could park roadside along the stretch leading upto the lot.

It was gradual incline. Would definitely do it again.

Very shady nice trail

Great conditions. Lots of flowers

Lots of snakes!

Great vista point to look out onto the valley below and the mountains on the other side. Also, the shady trails on the way up, and back down, the mountain were most definitelye hexceptionally clear day and could see the bay and beyond it was also a warm sunny day so the shady trails up and down the mountain were most definitely appreciated.

Very popular trail and area. There were some parts where I was alone but you see people the entire time. Lots of wildlife.

No parking fee, not too steep. Canopy for about 60-70% of the trail

Very good condition, 95% dry. Good footing, wide trail mostly. 75% sun, 25% shade, bring a hat and water. Pretty wildflowers, a little beyond peak

Nice short hike. Wanted to go for 1h 30mins like it said, but I was finished after 1h… still nice way through the woods

Some muddy sect ions, but not too bad. Saw quail, deer, a coyote and heard turkeys gobbling away. Some wild flowers, but mostly grass fields.

Love this loop! Nice views, a bit of uphill and fairly shaded for the most part (except the first and last 0.5 miles ). Horrible parking on the weekend but during the week lots of parking!

Beautiful, there is one rattlesnake though

Conditions were ideal. The sun was shining. The flowers were in full bloom. The hawks were soaring. The brooks were babbling. The butterflies were fluttering. And a light breeze kept us cool throughout. Absolutely perfect.

Shady

Poppies and lupines are finally coming out. Trail is now dry & no longer muddy. Gorgeous views of bay & ocean at Borel point

Really enjoyable walk! Sunny/exposed for a little at the beginning but majority shaded. Definitely download the map for navigation. Not sure why it has you take walk the road in the beginning, cross the street at the T intersection to get to Alpine trail and avoid walking along the road.

Some wildflowers near the trail. Hills still green.

Dried up already after recent rain.

Conditions: No shade, Great!

Lovely trail, no troublesome mud. Wildflowers just beginning.

Absolutely gorgeous hike! No muddy spots.

The vista point is beautiful!

Beautiful views of the bay, Mt. Hamilton (with snow), and out to the ocean. Quite windy along the ridge and 10 degrees cooler (46) along Skyline than near 280. We saw red tail hawks, many curious deer, and turkeys. Lots of little wild flowers but too cold for the poppies. Not muddy.

Beautiful trail but really steep hills! Would be not the best trail for people with joint issues.

Most of this trail loop is exposed to the sun and about half is fairly windy. Wildflowers are just starting to come out. Also saw several birds including a couple of hawks. I believe part of this trail is closed but there is a narrower trail that can be used to bypass the closed portion by hikers (but not bikes or horses)

7 (T2.5, V2, W1.5, X1, p2,r1) muddy few spot

Love this trail good quick workout, saw coyotes, turkey, deer…

I have hiked this many times. Last review 5/14/23. Hiked CCW. Not much new to report. I saw two turkeys. No significant wildflowers yet. Not one poppy!! As usual the parking lot was packed. Pleasant hike with sweeping views everywhere. Bright kelly green grasslands. This hike is on a wide open plane with panoramic view of bay area and coastline. Only the ancient oaks segment is shaded. No parking fee. Good for families. Bike or hike. Only about 10% shaded. Minor muddy areas. You have to share this trail with the bikers. Hiking boots are not required. Poles are helpful

Conditions: Muddy, No shade, Great!

Beautiful well-maintained trail with proper markers. Very few gradual inclines along the route. Had to make way for a few mountain bikers but not too many. Park opens before sunrise and closes after sunset. Large parking lot but it was completely full when I was leaving so get there early. Parking is free.

Counter clockwise this time & looked completely different. no poppies yet but likely in coming days. Beautiful as always

It's a beautiful trail with lots of vistas. The parking lot gets filled pretty fast, so arrive early.

Beautiful hike!

This hike is more of a harder Easy trail. I don’t considerate it Moderate. Still a beautiful hike

Nice hike! The way is good. It’s an easy hike. The parking is good.

Great trail! A little crowded

Amazing view, recommended at sunset!

Beautiful hike on a beautiful day. Very popular trail

Very muddy given heavy rains of late with some tree debris on trail, but passable. Coal Mine Ridge Preserve section was steep uphill & quite narrow trail, but a few spring wildflowers are already in bloom. Interesting looking fungi, plus an occasional view through the trees & rushing creeks below. Heard red-tailed hawks & some other birds. This was a longer hike so decided to walk back along a paved neighborhood street (Willowbrook) & Sequoia Senior Living rather than via Windy Hill to avoid muddy trail on return. That’s where the red-tailed hawk was seen up close sitting in a treetop.

Conditions: Muddy, Slippery

Hardly any mud today - brought poles but didn't really need them. A beautiful hike with views of the ocean and the Bay, great for a winter day. Very little shade. Lots of butterflies!

Righteous views

Areas of mud but easy overall to walk around it in the grass Pretty views No severe inclines-ended up going clockwise

a little muddy

It's been raining, so there is mud in many places. Worst for mud and slipping is the southwest quadrant of the loop. Poles could help, especially if you aren't agile. Also, the southeast part of the loop is very uphill, can be tiring.

Saw some deers on the way

Great views!
