Miroslav Klose was not just another prolific striker, he was an iconic record-breaker.
A goalscorer whose numbers speak for themselves.
This is the journey of the man who surpassed everybody in FIFA World Cup history.
I've always been a real striker.
Miroslav Klose
2002: Headed for great things
After his impressive performances in the qualifiers, Miroslav Klose earned a spot in Rudi Voller’s squad and his first World Cup appearance was one to remember.
In the 8-0 win over Saudi Arabia, Klose helped himself to an impressive hat-trick of headers. The 24-year-old also found the net against Republic of Ireland and Cameroon, becoming the first-ever player to score five headers in a single World Cup.
Germany went all the way to the final of the Japan/Korea tournament, only to lose against a Ronaldo-inspired Brazil. For Klose, who shared the Silver Boot with Rivaldo, this was just the beginning of an exciting World Cup journey.
