Sibel Kekilli is a German actress of Turkish descent who gained international fame for her role as Shae in the HBO series Game of Thrones. Born in 1980 in Heilbronn, West Germany, Kekilli made her acting debut in the 2004 film Head-On, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and earned her several awards, including the prestigious German Film Award Lola for Best Actress.
Since then, Kekilli has appeared in numerous national and international productions, such as Eve Dönüs, Winter Journey, When We Leave, and What a Man. She has also been a regular on the popular German crime series Tatort since 2010.
In addition to her acting career, Kekilli is an outspoken advocate for ending gender-based violence against women, collaborating with the NGO Terre des Femmes in Berlin. She was recognized for her activism by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, who named her an “Author of Freedom” in 2015.
