the great Buddy Rich was a master at his craft, definetly being amongst the five best drummers of all time and this album shows just why. it's a big band project focused on creativity above everything else, and even though Mr. Rich is the star of the show, many others here get their own time to shine. it's worth the listen in every single way.

One of the greatest jazz pieces i’ve ever heard, this album really goes to show how great of a drummer buddy rich really was.

i think the song selection on here is interesting in that only around half the tracks i would say really showcase Rich as the centerpiece. perhaps this is intentional and it does lead to a more balanced jazz record overall, but admittedly i went into this album by a jazz drummer wanting to hear songs that best showcase his jazz drumming. the songs that do achieve this are absolutely enthralling -- Rich's drumming has pinpont precision yet remains vibrant and alive and organic. it reminds me of ... read more
