Whew the nostalgia for whiny boring and deathly predictable 2014 alt rnb pop off the Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack sure is hitting early! It’s like it never left <3

Despite how abstract she's known to be, Twigs's strength has always been her subtly. Twigs's magnanimous RnB banger pulses with melancholic dancefloor passion, but its fire burns most brightly with the delicacies of its production and delectable instrumentation. Might well be her most catchy chorus to date, and I fucking love that piano goddamn.

shamefully boring
as someone who has been a longtime fan of twigs since the release of M3LL155X i can't express how disappointed this release made me feel. her vocals were entirely unremarkable - which is shocking for someone as talented and vocally skilled as twigs. the production was so dreary, so repetitive and samey and felt like a charli xcx reject (and i love charli xcx). seriously arca, what were you doing!? this feels like something knocked up together in an amateur 24-hr competition! the weeknd added nothing to the song, but this song is generally so underwhelming it wouldn't have made a difference either way. i'm really not against the idea of a song that doesn't tackle heavy topics or has a digestible beat for the general public, but there's certainly better ways to do it. i get that the goal was to make a mainstream pop song that could be accessible for a wider audience. however, accessible shouldn't have to mean boring.
not particularly relevant to the song, but the music video was unemotive and tame (yes there was crying, but it felt so disconnected, and not even in a 'commentary on dissociation' way, it just felt limp) and a letdown also. blegh. at least she's still talented and beautiful even if this was a miss.
