Summer Internship: Moolchand Medcity

For the summer internship at Moolchand Hospital, seven students of class XI were selected: Sanah Langer and Meghlayana Banerjee ( Biology) and Nimisha Pathak, Mehak Manwani, Ahan Ghosh, Deepak Kumar and Surbhi Bhatt ( Psychology).

This internship was organized by our Psychology teacher Ms. Sukhmeen Cheema for 5 and 6 June, 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Senior Consultant, Psychiatry and Child Health Psychology, Moolchand Medcity. We ' shadowed' him and some senior interns to see for ourselves for their profession entailed. As our interaction with them grew they were impressed to see the students showing keen interest on the basis of whatever we had studied.

On the first day, Dr. Nagpal and his interns explained to us some quick facts about Psychology: Important Psychologists, their theories of human behaviour, evolution of Psychology. They also made us aware of the pros and cons of taking up Psychology for higher studies. The Biology students were shown the CT scan machine and were briefed about it'is working. The day concluded with each one of us getting a Psychologist to research about, as homework.

The next day, the focus was on Psychological disorders. The interns discussed with us the kind of patients and disorders they come across. They shared their experiences, infact, very creatively, they even enacted a scene portraying a psychologist dealing with a patient suffering from a disorder- Schizophrenia.

Deepak Kumar got a chance to hear a case history firsthand wherein the patient herself described her condition. The incident was narrated to us by him later.

As we completed the internship and the senior interns assured us that, if we require, they will support us with any guidance or direction in the fiel and we will always be welcome for such interactive sessions at Moolchand.

This internship was one of those extremely informative and motivating experiences that we could get a taste of beyond our classrooms.
