San Marino High School Reviews

Overall I've had a good experience at this school. I moved here the summer before my Junior year of high school and was shocked by the intensity of the academics and how small the school was compared to my old school with 2,000 students. I had to spend a lot of time readjusting to the environment but eventually found some teacher that I enjoyed and was able to find administration that was helpful to me. Although some of the administration was not helpful, I was able to rise above and grow more as a person.
As someone who has been attending the school for 4 years, I can confidently say that I have only seen positive changes in the environment. The staff is lively and welcoming, parental involvement is relatively high, and there are a wide variety of resources and opportunities for students to participate in. Although, the school has a small population, which doesn't lead to much diversity, it creates a close knit community for students to interact with each other through clubs, sports, and a thriving VAPA department. The school also provides a challenging curriculum that more than prepares students for college, which is a rare and beneficial trait that not many school possess. A change I would like to see is more student involvement in school decisions. Ultimately, majority of the decisions made by administration are to serve the students, which means it also impacts them. More student involvement in how decisions are made will cater to student needs in a more effective manner.
Overall, academics at San Marino High School are good, and the students there are extremely academic-focused. However, this fosters a competitive environment, and some may get caught up on this. The facilities are decent for a public school, and overall it is a small school so that means theres a tighter-knit community. Most of the teachers care about the subject they are teaching, and are very passionate, but sometimes the course work is difficult. I'd like to see a bigger emphasis on sports, and more funding in that area overall.
