suica app on iphone

I added the Suica app itself to my Apple wallet (it showed up as a Cash card) before I realized I should have just added Suica as a Transit Card. Will the app be read by the machines even if it is not set up in the Transit Card section of my wallet? Can't seem to transfer it there. Thanks.

You don’t need the app for SUICA payment from Apple wallet.

I now know that I didn't need to download the entire app, but I already did it and installed and paid money on it. I just wanted to be sure that it would work, being that it is listed as a cash card instead of a transit card.

It seems to suggest the card issued that way can only be used as Apple Pay payment and not Transit Card.

https://apfaq.mobilesuica.com/faq/show/1409?site_domain=default

Google translate: "Suica can be used on iPhone/Apple Watch. You don't have to wait in line at the Midori-no-madoguchi counter or ticket vending machine at the station, and you can use it smoothly for trains, buses, and shopping."

Sounds like you can use that at the ticket vending machine but not at the turnstile (as transit card).

Can you not charge your transit card using the SUICA cash card?

Go to settings and apple wallet. See if you can set the Suica card as the express transit card.a variety of cards can be used as express transit. That is what lets you swipe at the turnstile without unlocking your phone.

I have both the app and the wallet versions.

I added the wallet one first by going to wallet and clicking the plus sign (➕)

I then topped it off to 20,000¥ max

I downloaded the Suica app so that I could get access to the Suica card number to add to my Shinkansen and other train reservations.

I am madly in. Love with the Suica card

I use it on the daily and pretty much anywhere that accepts card payments and electronic payments. Convenience stores like Lawson , 7-11, department stores , some mom and pop stores , trains , subways , buses , cable car and light rails. I mean I have been using it extensively.

When you’re ready to use it you do absolutely nothing but point the phone at the reader. In the beginning I was opening up the wallet version kkke I’m paying but really all you need to do is tell the person you will pay by Suica and then they set it up and you click it with your phone. So easy.

On my Shinkansen rides I just hold it over the reader at the station when you’re entering through the turnstile and out pops my tickets

On subways , limited express trains ,local trains buses and trams, I just tap on and off like it’s nothing.

It will be your best friend.

Hope this helps

If you added the wallet version first(which is transit card) , the SUICA app installed later automatically links the account to that card.

So it is not the same situation as OP.

Did you add money to your account ?

If not , the. Maybe just delete it and creat a new on in wallet as a transit card

Curious , when you went to try to transfer it , what happened ?

OP added money to the CASH card. I don't know how he tried to "transfer it there". Transfer what (fund or card) to where.

So here are the 2 solutions described above (assuming OP has a SUICA cash card in Apple wallet):

1) create a SUICA transit card in Apple wallet , "add money" to it and use payment from SUICA cash card , empty the cash card balance

OR

2) go to ios Settings -> Wallet & Apple Pay ->Express Transit Card , and designate the SUICA cash card as transit card
