WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — A penthouse in West Hollywood offering unobstructed panoramic views of the Santa Monica Mountains recently sold for $24 million, making it one of the most expensive condo sales ever in the Los Angeles area, according to a report from California Listings.

The sale is close to record-breaking: The highest-priced condo sale in LA history came nearly 15 years ago, when Candy Spelling paid $35 million for a 15,000-square-foot penthouse in The Century skyscraper in Century City — more than double the size of the West Hollywood condo — according to Robb Report.

The 6,451-square-foot penthouse sits on the top floor of 8899 Beverly, whose website calls it the tallest building in West Hollywood. The unit boats 14-foot ceilings and moveable floor-to-ceiling windows that open out on to a wraparound terrace that offers an additional 2,000 square feet of living space, according to the building's website.

The 8899 Beverly penthouse's new owner is Tom Coates, a San Francisco businessman who works as managing director at Jackson Square Properties, the owner of dozens of apartment complexes and mobile home communities across the state, according to Robb Report.

Michelle Montany and Taaseen Qureshi with The Agency New Development held the listing, while Mauricio Umansky repped the buyer, according to California Listings.
