"A Stranger in the House" is the second novel by bestselling author Shari Lapena. After a horrible car accident Karen Krupp not only finds herself without any memory of that night, but suddenly also is the prime suspect of a murder investigation. Did she really do what the police say she did or was she just in the wrong place at the wrong time? I rather enjoyed reading Shari Lapena's first novel "The Couple Next Door" and was eager to dive into her new book. Sadly, it didn't meet my expectations. The premise itself I find quite intriguing, if predictable, but it isn't executed as well as it could be. Also, the characters aren't particularly likeable. What bothers me the most, though, is Lapena's writing style. I don't know if it deteriorated that much since her debut or if her translator just did a great job (I read the German copy of "The Couple Next Door"), but it seems really simple and uninspired to me. "A Stranger in the House" is by no means a bad book. Even though I have my problems with it, it's a quick and easy read that will find its following. ...weiterlesen
