Hey everyone,

Welcome to day five of my 30-day writing challenge! Today’s topic is close to my heart — my hair. For a South Asian girl, hair holds a special significance, often seen as a symbol of beauty and femininity. And for me, my natural, untreated waves have become a source of immense pride and self-expression.

Growing up, I was blessed with a head full of off-black hair, untouched by heat styling tools. These weren’t always the easiest waves to manage, but their wildness held a certain charm. In 2017, I made a decision that solidified my connection to my hair — I donated a foot-long length to the Cancer Trust Fund. Knowing my hair would bring joy and confidence to someone battling illness was an incredibly empowering experience.

Now, my hair rests comfortably at mid-back length, reaching my elbows when loose. To maintain its natural wave pattern, I’ve developed a simple yet effective routine. A twice-weekly deep conditioning treatment with a blend of coconut oil, olive oil, and vitamin E capsules keeps my hair nourished and manageable. Braiding my hair is another trick — it not only protects the waves but also adds a touch of style.

But my favorite way to wear my hair? Undoubtedly, a high bun adorned with flowers, jasmine blossoms being my absolute favorite. This style is both practical and beautiful, allowing me to manage my waves while adding a touch of elegance and cultural flair. It’s a look that feels uniquely me, a celebration of my heritage and natural beauty.

Hair is more than just strands — it’s a journey of self-discovery and a powerful form of expression. What is your relationship with your hair? Do you have any special traditions or routines? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

See you tomorrow for another story!

Best,
